winfor666 Posted February 9, 2010 Report Share Posted February 9, 2010 In the BIOS setup screen (American Megatrends), I move up and down the various item lines using the arrow keys. According to the on-screen suggestion, "+/-/:value". In my previous experiences with changing the options, I could change one line and it would not affect anything else. Now when I change the "1st Boot Device", it changes the 2nd Boot Device and the 3rd Boot Device. Shouldn't I have the option to set all three the same or two the same and one different, or the 1st to HDD, the second to floppy and the 3rd to CD? When I set the 1st boot De3vice to HDD, the 2nd is network boot, 3rd is floppy (even though there is no floppy drive, and 4th is CD. I hate that. How can I get it to uncouple and do what I want? Boot sequence is probably best changed from the motherboard set-up utility which may give you the option you want. Consult your motherboard manual. AlanHo Posted February 9, 2010 Report Share Posted February 9, 2010 This is a question I have been tempted to ask.On my desktop, and my wife's, we share the same problem. The boot sequence seems to be in a circular loop and as you promote one item all others follow in its wake with the previous top one moving to the bottom. Both have recent vintage ASUS motherboards and the manual does not give any info on the subject.My Laptop is different - you can promote and demote items individually.I am resigned to the fact that you get what you get and there is nowt you can do about it - or is there? rong Posted February 9, 2010 Report Share Posted February 9, 2010 My ASUS motherboard lets me chose the order I want, if I change the first boot to CD it leaves my second boot at CD. andsome Posted February 9, 2010 Report Share Posted February 9, 2010 On my computer there is no need to set a boot sequence. Normally the computer boots from Windows. If I want to boot from CD or DVD i just press F8, and a window comes up asking me which boot device I want to use, and i just select the appropriate drive.
