Irene
I just downloaded the latest version of 'Speccy'. It shows that my CPU is running at the following temperature....Do you think that average 40deg is OK?
-pops-
Very low!I have a machine that runs at 80deg when idle. It's been like that for years and still runs perfectly OK.

Run Speccy under load e.g. at the same time as doing both a full Anti-irus Scan and a Malware-Bytes Anti-malware scan and see what the temperature is like then :)
bludgard
Hi,Irene.Specs for your Wolfdale CPU is here:--->;http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Pentium_Dual-Core/Intel-Pentium%20Dual-Core%20E6300%20AT80571PH0722ML%20(BX80571E6300).html(Please copy and paste above,as something is wrong with my inserting link abilities) :( Tcase shows 74+ as max rated temp. However,I've heard of 100 or more when overclocking as stable.Clock speed rated at 1.06-3.33MHz.You certainly are in the safe zone. :)

andsome
Mine is currently at 66 after ten minutes running. I posted a similar question here and on other forums some time ago. In warm weather mine reaches about 70-72, and has been running for almost two years.B)

-pops-
I agree that 80 deg is high and when I first built the machine I tried desperately to get it lower. Nothing I did would get the temp down without some totally impractical measures being taken but, after a time, I noted that the machine ran perfectly OK so I left it alone. It's in daily use for about 12 - 14 hoursThat computer is about eight years old now and apart from a replacement PSU and a few noisy fans, it is the same essential hardware as it was when I built it. It's now running W7 without any problems.
