Humour is nearly always at the expense of someone or something - otherwise it would not be humour. I do not use or condone foul language - but my definition of foul might be another persons definition of acceptable. There is plenty of mild bad language used here - and looking back through old posts you will find that all the people who have posted in this thread are on record as using some of it sometimes. Innuendo and contextual comments are a way of presenting risque harmless humour in a more palatable form. Switch on the TV, even before the 9.00 pm watershed, and you will find many examples that are ignored by the modern day Mary Whitehouses. The most popular comedy shows would be utterly sterile without such humour. Things change after the watershed and some might find the Mrs Brown's Boys unwatchable. I happen to find it hilarious and am able to see the true humour behind the bad language.The Lounge and Jokes sections of the forum exist to enable people to make jocular posts or start threads on non-technical matters, personal stuff or other stories in the public domain. If the majority of forum members want the forum to be expunged of such non-technical topics, then these sections should be deleted. However - before this is done - I think you will find that the regular members here start more threads in these sections than anywhere else. Without these contributions the forum will become mainly the domain of the one-shot transient new members and spammers. Not only that - the scope for people who relish posting withering comments will evaporate because there will be nowt left to have a go at. If more people started posting more interesting stuff - the jokes will not be as prominent. I still think that any thread which contains extreme or inflammatory language should be deleted or locked and the warning procedure invoked on the guilty party. If you as an individual find less contentious posts unacceptable - then just ignore them and avoid threads in the Jokes or Lounge sections rather than spoil it for people with more liberal views. If there is so much contention over a gineus who happens to be a lover of good music, I cannot imagine what it will be like when these beutiful creatures have passed. The schools around here are trimming their budgets. The first on the chopping block are the arts. I can't wait to see what is in store....I realize that moderators are a necessity and the service cannot be overlooked when dealing with any decent organization. I believe most mature people know when to pull in the reigns when coming to a cliff's edge. Some may choose to leap to their destruction. I am prone to both of these options. For I am arrogant as and know no better. Hence my title.Although I pay rent here, this is not my house. I didn't come here to cause inner turmoil or to act as a home-wrecker. From now on I'll try harder than anyone else here to refrain from any refference to dreaded police officials or their biological counterpart. The relentless thrashing about on old Salty, coupled with years of self abuse from robbing and a stabbing, looting and a shooting, left me with a rusty old title of, "Johnny Too Bad." Er, maybe I will and did....To the community at large:All this infighting hasn't kept me up a wink. I have noticed a bit of polarization. Will there be factions and groups of rebels forming against the ruling class here as well? Civil war abounds. Seems to be quite in vogue, actually. Will this dignified and upstanding forum end with the participants slinging cyber-virus dirty bombs around willy-nilly?I really find all this quite amusing. There are elements of Order and Chaos being confronted here. Surely if a balance of these powerful and compatible forces can be worked out within this forum, world domination could (in theory), be just a step away. I will see if I can come up with something constructive to post.
