Now that it is on general release, and others have kindly done all the testing of it, I have installed I E 9, safe in the knowledge that I did a new mirror image in ACRONIS first. After playing around with it for an hour or two, and configured a few things, I like it and recommend it. It seems as though I will not be needing my back up.B) B) B)

Hmmmmmmm. I hid the option to install through Windows Update. I'll try it on another machine first. Thanks for the heads up, andsome.:)

I have allow it to run via WU on many Win7 systems and so far, zero problems.

I do have two add-ons I recommend for IE9. The first is SimpleAdBlock for IE and the other is a brand new "real-time" spell checker for IE9, Speckie.

I have been using I E spell checker. I have just on your recommendation removed this and installed Speckie. I like it already, it automatically underlines miss spelled words, which I E spell check didn't do on Windows 7.B) B)

I have just installed the ad blocker as well, it will be interesting to see how this one goes.

One thing which had me puzzled for a couple of minutes, is that before a program can be downloaded, the approval bar is at the bottom of the screen and not at the top as before.B)

Yes. I see how this could cause one to momentarily lose the ability to reason.

I just got caught up on my assigned assignments so will now have a bit of time to fiddle. I definately like the idea of adblock. And test driving the newfangled spill chucker endorsed by andsome 'imself will be the highlght of my day tomorrow.

Ya'll be good now, ya hear?

Nighty-night.

:hi:

The new spell check does no seem to stay active, I am uninstalling it and going back to the old one.

Just tested on another form and it is working. It appears to be a problem on this forum. Any ideas?

Testing again, got it sorted. It needs a left click once words have been typed, then the errors will show.

My computer has just updated itself and installed IE9. Seems to be running OK. I have no doubt whatsoever that pages load much quicker than in IE8. I guess it will take a day or two to get used to the new minimalist layout

I don't need another spell checker - I am quite happy to continue using the one included on the Google toolbar.

If you tinker with it you can show more, see below. I think I am going to get rid of Speckie after all, it isn't working aggain on this site as you can see by my deliberate mistake.

Back again with IE spell installed.

I have a minor niggle with IE9 - the command bar is located at the left of the screen and refuses to be moved - even after ensuring the toolbars are unlocked. The help file states that it is located at the right of the screen (where I want it) by default - but this is patently incorrect.

In IE8 I could move the command bar and dock it at the right of the screen on the same line as the tabs - which reduced the screen depth taken up by the header info - but it seems stubborn in IE9. I see in the screen shot which andsome posted ealier his command bar is also to the left....it's a bugger...grrrrrr

EDIT

I have had another play and have discovered that if you select to show the Favorites bar - the command bar moves to the right and you can then move your toolbars to share common lines.

I have now got the following toolbars selected...Menu, Favorites, Command, Google, and WOT and have shuffled them as shown in the following screen shot. It is now how I am used to with IE8

Well I installed it too (Windows Update downloaded it). Looks great, but.....

On Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit:

QuickTime player will not start anymore

Then I was unable to download anything, including IE9 itself from MS. MS fix tool also crashed IE9. Always "Internet Explorer stopped working"

Reset everything to standard. starting it with no ad-ins. No joy.

However, Windows Update did work and downloaded updates, as did Norton 360. Go figure.

Finally ended up uninstalling it. Back in IE8 downloading works fine (but QuickTime is still broken) Probably need to download again an re-install it, but it's not a programme I often use (part of I-Tunes which still worked)

Anyone have had that download problem or know how to fix it? I downloaded IE9 with IE8 but did not install it yet again nor did I lit Windows Update install it (it immediately told me it is available)

I have no problems whatsoever with IE9, but also I don't have two pieces of software on my computer that you have. These are Norton and Quicktime, maybe these are the problem. I would NEVER EVER touch either of them again.

can I get rid of that "approve bar" at the bottom?

I don't honestly know. I have got used to it now, it replaces the one that used to appear at the top. I have no idea why they changed it, but as the famous saying goes, 'you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all the time'.B)
