AlanHo
I have 4 browsers installed on my Windows 10 computer. IE, Edge, Chrome and Firefox I currently have IE set as the default. I have shortcuts on my desktop to the 3 forums I post to daily. Using the shortcuts - the other two forums always open with the default browser - but this forum always opens with Firefox. The only differences I can see is that this forum's url ends in .org - whereas the others end in .com and .co.uk respectively. Also this Forum prefix is https: and the others are both http: Can anyone explain this little mystery.
IMTNT
Poor computer, you've got it so confused. I didn't think anyone used IE or Edge but maybe you can install more browsers and links to the desktop.
Gandalph
https is Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secured. The other one is Hypertext Transfer Protocol. Having said that, when I look at my URL address bar all I see is www.windowsforum.org, there is no https in front of it.
AlanHo
As an experiment I have just uninstalled Firefox and tried to open the forum by clicking on the desktop shortcut. This window opened. You will see that it only offers one browser to chose from. Chrome and IE are not available and you cannot select "Use an App" or "Use the Default Browser". At present my computer is set with IE as the default browser. I just tried changing the default browser to Chrome - but I still get the same window open. I can however open the forum in IE or chrome via their favourites. I just find the behaviour odd. Now to reinstall Firefox and get back to where I was. andsome
I use this forum,Murgatroydes and IDF 50 lifeboat. I tried IE when I first had Windows 10, but it kept freezing. I tried Edge and find it very lacking. FF is the only one on Windows 10 that works as it should. I have gone into settings and made FF the default, and see no point in messing about with others now, Thunderbug does me nicely for mail. The following link will probably explain how the path works far better than I could: CLICK HERE
andsome
I use FF set as default browser. I opened IE and went to a website. I copied the URL and created a shortcut. I then closed down IE and clicked on the shortcut. It open in FF my default browser.
AlanHo
It's not the shortcut Irene - here it is https://www.windowsforum.org It's something to do with Firefox and Windows 10. Now that I uninstalled Firefox every time I click in the Forum shortcut it opens the window shown in my first post and asks me to choose the browser - but the only choice is Edge. I used to have Firefox.exe as the prefix to the WF Forum url when Edge and IE were giving this forum problems but my other forums were OK with both. I s'pose I will have to set IE as the prefix to the forum now.
andsome
Now that I have set FF as the default browser,ALL my shortcuts open in FF as I stated above, even one that I created in IE as a test

There is a single space before the addition of: https://www.windowforum.org The following screen snip of the properties show how they differ. The target full entries are: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" https://www.windowsforum.org "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" https://www.windowsforum.org
AlanHo
Irene - thanks for your trouble but I was aware of the space. I have resolved it by choosing IE as my default browser AND "Default Applications by File type" setting. Now Windows Forum behaves like the others. If I change the default browser it follows suit.
