Did they call him Keith by any chance catgate.

I think that cat must have had something stuck up it's bottom befor it died. Something has put a smile on it's face. Probably told it is was going to get stuffed and the cat thought of it the wrong way.

I remember an occasion when I was a child, about  seven years old. We lived in a new semi with fences between the back gardens.

On the day in question I was in the house when suddenly the sound of a bird (which turned out to be a starling) screeching wildly and obviously in great discomfort.

I rushed out and found a black and white moggie violently biting the bird whilst holding it down with both paws.

I rushed into the shed, got a coal shovel, and rushed back. I leaped over the fence and the cat took no notice and just carried on trying to kill the starling. I turned the shovel over and brought it down on to the cats head. The cat seemed to shrug it off and carried on attacking the cat.   So ......I repeated the procedure again ...but this time hoping that I could produce enough "clout" to persuade the cat to leave the bird.

The cat did stop but did not run away. It could not. It had suddenly become an ex-cat and lay there motionless . The bird was put in a cardboard box with a bit of chicken wire on top to keep it safe until it could get back to normal and the ex-cat was dumped in the dust bin.

I still hate cats and like birds (even those with feathers).

I can understand your dislike of Cat's, but please bear in mind that it is one of the thing's a cat does. They are natural hunters just like their ancestors on the plains of Africa and other countries. It's natural for them to catch Birds and Mice and other small rodents.

I appreciate the fact that this is what cats do, but in my humble opinion they are completely unsuitable pets to live in populated areas. They are absolute pests, and decimated wild life. They are fine on farms keeping other vermin under control. They also make sewers of other people gardens. This is why I have plastic spikes fixed along the top of the fences.
