savak Posted November 20, 2003 Report Share Posted November 20, 2003 I'm having extreme trouble with Windows 2000 Prof and Cd Rom drivers. My system has an HP 9500i writer and Acer 52Max cd-rom. Both are identified by Bios and the Device Manager but ... the icons in the Device manager have the yellow exclaimation mark for both drives. Both properties show the same drivers but "windows cannnot load" them "Code 31". I have reinstalled the drivers, looked at the Windows Update site to no avail.What can I do? I installed another copy of 2000 Prof in another directory and all worked ok from that boot, but I do not want to install it over my exisiting setup du to multiple users. And I don't want to loose my dial up settings etc. (Or can I do this and still keep my dial up settings?"I'm not an expert at WIndows at all so any help would be greatly appreciated.Tia ;) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I ran the registry editor and remove the references as given in the MKB reference as given in an earlier reply. Strangley this did not allow me access to the drives, but a friend told me about ROXIOZAP.EXE a program written to remove all traces of roxio software. This cured my problem.Just out of curiosity what are peoples preferences for cd burning software? I sometimes use other programs aswell depending on what i am burning.I did use Easy Cd Creater Ver 2 or 2.5 i think at the start, but only cos it came with my first burner.Nero 6 is a great piece of software. I've used Nero for almost as long as it's been available and it's seldom let me down BUT my opinion of InCD (the Nero packet writing software) is almost the same as its Roxio equivalent, EcCD. I've run NSM Win Dr on my w2k pc (which I don't really trust as it's messed things up on my 98se pc, but I ran it as an experiment) and it found 63 errors, which I 'fixed'. Then there were anomalies afterwards like ie wouldn't work properly so I ran sfc which told me nothing but obviously fixed whatever NSW had messed up as pc is now running fine. It will list what it has found and fixed.Yes.Click Start, Run, Type: eventvwr.msc and then Click OKClick SystemThen under Source find Windows File Protection (WFP) If there are only two entries, it means 1) It started 2) It finished.If there are any more it means it has replaced a file.
