artist
its sad but working in an environment where christmas is rammed down your throat from july onwards really spoils it somewhat!I've done that before - shouldn't squash your inner spirit.Do you put on a happy face for the rest of the family - or does everybody have to be miserable?'There is no compulsion on my part for anyone to be here at Christmas time - completely voluntary.'That's a bad attitude Pops! mark2
I wish everyone the best wishes at all times of year, not just at some season manufactured in awe of the great god, profit.I certainly agree with this sentiment, my local newsagent has had christmas wrapping and 'christmas club' since JULY bl**dy ridiculous, and all in the name of trying to get the last penny from your pocket. Christmas is a time for giving., but the rampant commercialism has turned into months of TAKINGS beforehand.
Guest nellie2
Well to my mind, Christmas is a time for giving, for reminding those who you care about that you love them. For counting your blessings and most of all for remembering friends and people who have come into your life and made a difference... however small.So... I would like to take this opportunity to remember...Time for a Beer so sadly missedMmanya I worry about herPopeye Hope he is okClint DittoPC Eejit well he made me laughOur friends at the Pit and our friends at PC AdvisorCookie where did he go??and so many others who pop in now and then or who we haven't seen for a long time, everyone is in my thoughts and I would like to wish them all a peaceful Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year. :)

-pops-
'There is no compulsion on my part for anyone to be here at Christmas time - completely voluntary.'That's a bad attitude Pops! Why is that a bad attitude?I am responding to some cutting remarks made to me in a misunderstanding of things I've written. Comments like that merely show a continued lack of understanding of my view.I am quite justified in saying that there is no compulsion for anyone to spend Christmas day here with me and the missus. Nobody is blackmailed into coming round and I don't have the doors locked when they are here. Believe me as well that my granddaughters most certainly wouldn't stay if they were under duress.I come back to the point of Christmas wishes and all that stuff. One's appreciation of mankind should be a year round thing, not some special sentiment normally kept in a box for most of the year and only brought out towards the end of December to mollify some guilty conscience. Guest nellie2
One's appreciation of mankind should be a year round thing You are making such a good point there -pops-. It should be a year round thing but unfortunately it isn't. So perhaps Christmas isn't so bad if it gives us the time and the inclination to stop and think....... for a while!! :)
poppy1910
its three weeks to go!! woohoo, im excited! i love the whole festive season, xmas, new year, you name it. to me personally, it means spending precious time with my loved ones...........................and the cat!! being together and giving presents as tokens of our affection etc. its also a time to remember our dear departed loved ones too, especially when the family gathers. its also the period of time between the 24th dec and the middle of january, that we get absolutely and totally pie-eyed!!! andsome
its sad but working in an environment where christmas is rammed down your throat from july onwards really spoils it somewhat! As I have already said, I love Christmas, but I do have to agree with this statement. A large Garden Nursery near to where I live, part of the Wyevale Group, sectioned off a large part of the display are at the end of July to prepare a Christmas display. This was absolutely ridiculous, and there is NO WAY that I would purchase a single item from them which had anything at all to do with Christmas. We had a written invitation to attend a preview at the end of October, which of course we ignored. This is supposed to be a garden nursery, not a department store, and as far as I am concerned is another case of trying to pinch everyone else's business. We regularly see Butchers shops selling tomatoes, or hardware shops selling home brew kits. Only last week I sent an e-mail of complaint to Sainsbury's concerning their store at Cannock. Many food and grocery items have now been left off the shelf to make way for TV sets, linen, cutlery, vacuum cleaners, video machines etc etc. I pointed out to them that from being a grocery and food store which was second to none, they had become a second rate Jack of all trades and master of none. Needless to say this has been ignored and remains unanswered. I have no time for all the commercialism, but still love Christmas.
