Police today seized more than half a tonne of ammonium nitrate fertiliser which could have been used to carry out a terror bombing on UK soil.

Eight suspected Islamic terrorists, all British citizens of Pakistani descent, were arrested as 700 officers carried out 24 raids across London and the Home Counties.

Anti-terrorist detectives believe an al Qaida-supporting cell could have been plotting a "spectacular" attack.

well it was said that the al Qaida were most likely to attack the uk and the phrase was used by a reporter "if the al Qaida had a list of contrys that they wanted to attack we would most likely to be the number one target" or something along that lines. I cant remeber it was about a month ago now

One of the big problems in this is that ammonium nitrate is so very widely used as a fertiliser on farms.

Half a tonne isn't very much in farming terms and that amount can easily be replenished by anyone with a mind to do so. Let's hope that the main perpetrators have been caught.

One of the fathers of the 8 arrested suspects said " that he son was not really bad , he just mixed with the wrong type of bombers and fundamentalists at the local mosque "

If genuine Muslim s know that their place of worship is being abused , why are they not coming forward.........?

Now this stinks. If that's the case then the father should, being a good citizen, give the names of these bombers and fundamentalists from the mosque to the coppers. I know that an attack in the UK is inevitable, as stated by the top cop, but what surprises me is that it seems that the UK will be attacked by British citizens. That's just :censored: up.

I think they are Muslims first British second.  :(

I think that should read:

They are terrorist/fundamentalist (extremist) first, British second.

I know a few Muslims who, if i'm a good judge of people, are quite disgusted by the actions of these idiots and their using Islam.

Please all, do not let this thread degenerate into a race/religious bashing topic.

Like Intratech, I know several Muslims who are as appalled by the current goings on, as you or I. We cannot allow the actions of a few, to become our guideline for an entire race. That is part of what the extremists would like. :(

Please consider your posts carefully before replying, as all derogatory or defamatory statements will be removed without warning.

Thank you. Mr. Mouse.

I wasn't trying to instigate any kind of race bashing at all - that's not my style.

My only experience of Islam is through what I've read and watched on television - so please correct me if I'm mistaken.

My understanding is that a Muslim's first loyalty will always be to Islam rather than to the country in which he is resident - whether he be a fundamentalist , terrorist or not.

Aren't Christians supposed to do the same?

edit: Meaning be faithful to their religion first and everything afterwards.

I am a Christian BTW.

'When in Rome, do as the Romans do'

The proverb is often attributed to Saint Ambrose (c.340-397), whose advice to Saint Augustine read: Si fueris Romae, Romano vivito more; si fueris alibi, vivito sicut ibi (‘When you are in Rome live in the Roman style; when you are elsewhere live as they live elsewhere’)

I'm clutching here Intra :P

Well we had the original medieval package holidays (crusades) to the costa's which eventually kicked the Moors out of Spain ...but were well over that ....but some on the losing side are still not ...

But I can see how Christian missionaries could be viewed ....Pray with us, convert , because we can cure you ( medical technology ,)and feed you (US and Euro-land subsidised overproduction ) and quench you thirst (drill a well )

British muslims are just as much at risk as any other part of the London population ......]

If these bombs do go off ,It will be at random in crowded places with no warning ....Looking at the track record of these fundamentalist terrorist's ...

Muslims died at Bali and 9/11 , practically all the deaths in Iraq during the Shi'ite religious festival ......

They should take a long hard look at the abuse of a small number of their UK mosques ...
