Yup it is that time of year....again!

So how will you be telling the tax man how much you have earnt and how much more money he can get out of you?

I'm keen to do mine this year as I know that I stand to get back somewhere up to about £800 as I was taxed for 4 months work as if I were doing 12 months. Also being self employed means I've had to wait since August to get my hands on the money. What annoys me is that I'll just get the money, if I had owed the tax man that amount he would have wanted interest :censored:

Have to say though I've only ever done the online return (last 3 years) and it has always worked and been fairly simple.

Why does your daughter have to do one?? (if you don't mind me asking!)

Have to say I'm amazed at the number of people who think there are special tax rules for students. My sister (at univeristy) was given a letter by her employer which said "you don't pay tax if you work in your holiday, but you do if you work in term time" which is not true at all.

Should anyone else be confused then students, like everyone else have a personal tax allowance (roughly £4500) as most don't work enough to earn more than that they can sign a form to say they won't earn that much and so no tax needs to be collected. Should they earn more than that amount the tax man will be onto them.

Am surprised you think online is too much - though I wouldn't want to do it with dial up. It works everything out for you :)

I dont even know what it is :(

Tax...it is what funds your education...and the occasional war.

A tax return is where grown ups admit to working and being paid for it and let the government take a large percentage of it.

You'll soon learn...!

:( :( :(  :(

Why ? - because some of her various non-term time employments (because of their nature) have automatically had tax deducted which she of course doesn't have to pay because her earnings have not exceed the personal allowance threshold ! She actually had a £600 refund last year.

I can speak with some authority on this subject because unlike most other Forum Members I am a qualified accountant :D

PS - but I do not practice main-stream accountancy any more as I have gone into the IT/financial systems area. So I do not give "free" tax advice (before anyone asks) :D !

I have to say Sir Rad, that whenever I have had a tax rebate they have always paid me the relevant interest on it. :D

I picked "an other way" cos my wife does mine.

I can read and write in German (well writting i do seam to have a problem the spelling) so to tackle a Tax Form is asking a bit much.

I am sure that my wife, just fills out the forms and sends in all the relivant receipts. But this is all done in January as the German Tax year runs from January to December.

Mr M. I shall wait to see what happens - though I doubt I'll be able to work it out.  I guess they could argue that there is no interest because they repay at the end of the tax year.

Hi

I had interest of the inland rev once, i think that you will only get the interest, once they have told you how much your rebate will be and are going to post the cheque off. OK this was about 10 years ago now and the cheque never came so after 3 months i asked them where it was, they said that it had not been processed yet, when it did finally get here, it had the added interest on it.
