syntax01010 Posted February 1, 2005 Report Share Posted February 1, 2005 It depends on the type of media being played. For music, Foobar is the hands down best player i've ever used. Setting it up can be a bit of a pain, but after you've done it a few times its easy. For any sort of movie, animation, or movie type file, then my vote goes to other, I use Media Player Classic. It supports playing any codec that Windows Media player will play, but has a very small requirement of resources from your system, is very stable, fast, efficient and reliable. Also, if you set it up properly, you can use to to play RealVideo and Quicktime files too. For streaming media though, my choice is VideoLan or VLC. It's ability to easily play partially downloaded files or streaming files, and its ability to easily work on nearly any operating system make it a hands down favorite of mine.Windows Media Player is owned, run by, distributed by, and updated by M$...nuff saidWinAmp is now owned by the megacorporation of AOL/Time-Warner...very much like M$ in some nefarious ways.....nuff saidSonique is good, but lacks the user base of WinAmp for developing a wide amount of plug-ins to help expand its capabilities. oceans11 Posted February 16, 2005 Report Share Posted February 16, 2005 I use VideoLan Media Player V. 0.8.1. Why? Most other players caused conflicts with WMP which I choose to leave installed. I use VLC to play files whose formats WMP can't play & whose codecs WMP wants you to pay for! When I at a website that has some video media I choose to view then WMP opens.
