Ponderings of a confused person

I've recently had an interesting experience in another forum. Some of you know about it.. others I figured I'd share and see what your thoughts on it are. Most especially I'd like the viewpoints of Moderators and Admins.

I had another member message me that I had always considered a friend from the forum. We have talked off and on pretty much since I had joined the forum. Out of the blue this person messages me asking I delete a post that was a harmless joke that was no way found offensive by anyone, I asked several folks to review it before making my decision not to delete it and nobody could seem to find anything wrong with the post. I replied to the member unless they had became a mod or admin they were not going to censor my post. This person replied back that they had asked another party the joke was intended for to NOT reply to the post and that they were sick of the bickering going on. I was pretty confused because nobody else saw this one line ... and I quote "I hope the govenor stands up when and if the ladies leave the table" unquote as being out of line or offensive. I finally had to block the member from messaging me telling them to report the post if they found it so offensive and here is where we part ways.

I can understand some of these wanna be moderators you find on some of these forums so I figure I will just block them and go on about my merry way. A little while later I get a first and final warning all in one fell swoop from an Admin. Telling me one more time I will get banned. :blink: I responded to the Admin I would like to know what I did exactly so I would be sure not to repeat the behavior and he couldnt give me an answer other than I had been "reported" no need to argue just consider myself warned. I again responded I wasn't arguing but to be given one warning without even telling me what I did wrong or the reasoning behind it was only fair to let me know exactly what I did. I questioned whether you can just report people and you get a warning without any explaination other than you were reported. I got no response to this or any other questions I asked.

I found it very curious that it was a MASS warning.. another friend got the same warning and he hadn't even been logged in all day. When he replied to the admin he had no idea he wasnt even online all day and that he hadnt argued with anyone including the one I made above said joke to in the open forum. The Admin then replied he was sorry (this indicates to me he never even bothered to look at what was offensive just going on what is reported) and further more said the person the joke was intended for had been warned as well for bickering.(The person the joke was intended for has been very offensive and aggressive out in open forum they have been repeatedly warned yet still remain). My friend said ok and accepted the admins apology. Next thing you know the person the joke was intended for smugly reports out into open forum shes received no kind of warning she hadn't been included. So now I not only feel like the admin in question didnt even investigate into the reports but lied to members about who exactly was getting warnings of this nature.

Needless to say I am first and foremost shocked by being reported by someone I considered a friend. It was like a knife between the shoulder blades really because I held this person in the highest regard. I had noticed that lately her posts make her seem like she is trying to be a moderator but I just sort of overlooked it until she pulled this stunt. Apparently if you don't take heed to this members request you get threatened with being banned.

My question is this... when Mods and or Admins give a warning and I might I add only the first and made clear a FINAL warning with the threat of being banned... do you not at least explain what the individual did or point out their post that was found to be offensive? Or do you just tell them they were reported and not give any explaination? As I said before I have never had any kind of warning. This was a first for me. Can anyone help me figure this out or was I just railroaded by a sneaky wanna be moderator and an Admin with a God complex? I thank you in advance for reading this I know it is long but I needed to vent. I guess I needed some other viewpoints to help me figure out what to do in this situation.

To be honest i hate mods & admins ( not personally), i hate people messing with my posts, telling me what i can and cant post, im pretty sure thats already come across. You always get bum lickers, who want to feel more important, and useful. I wouldnt lose sleep over it tho. This is what i would do ..... Id get friendly with mod and wham , get him/her to delete all posts made by the grassy bum lick :P (thats just me tho).

Maybe i should stop this, is loads of forums i cant go in now cos ive been banned :down:

I can understand being censored if the post is offensive or hurtful to others. There are rules on each forum and as long as the guidelines are being followed I question so called reportings but no evidence of the misdeeds. Strange rules that seem to apply to some and not others. I am all about fair and equal to all not just a few. If I have crossed a line I will take my punishment and accept it, but at least tell me what exactly was said to be found offensive enough to threaten to ban me. I find that to be a pretty serious charge and explaination is called for instead of just being told not to question or ask anything that constitutes arguing and no reason given for the warning other than that. I mean if you can report people and not have to have anything to back it up well its gonna be like a free for all over there before long and nobody will be posting :D I dont hate admins or mods they have a hard job and especially a place that is provided for free for all to enjoy. I dont take that for granted and I respect them all for it. But this treatement was strange and no proof given for the warning just has me pondering exactly what the heck is going on :blink:

I hate getting told what to do it p*sses me off alot. but the mods in this forum seem to be dead on most of the time. I have only seen a couple of times where the mod was a bit heavy handed but other than that they are alrite.

As the saying goes 'There's nowt as queer as folk' just try and ignor it, afterall it's just a hobby and there's plenty of other forums, like this one were all the guys and gals are respectful of each other.

I can't comment on what other forums do or their policy... I'm sure the Mods and Admins must have their reasons for running things the way they do.

I can only say that I review complaints, make a decision and give an explanation. We don't get many complaints.... we do have a policy which we stick to.... sometimes it is a bit difficult for members to understand our reasoning. But there are legal considerations to take into account.

The Mods here are mods because we trust their judgement and they are committed to WF.

All I could say TracyLynne is that with everything that has happened in the past week....... perhaps the staff there are still a bit out of sorts... if you see what I mean. It must be hard to have someone close to you hurting so much.

Yes Nellie I understand that... it is why I have not approached the one hurting over there for his levelheaded perspective on the situation I just took it and went on. But the keyword here in your post is you give an explaination. Not just warn with no real insight to what is happening or what was found offensive. Even a child is told why they are being punished and the reason for it. Not even allowed to ask a question about it just cut off. If I feel I have crossed the line I know it, I dont even have to ask if I am punished for it. But this one perplexed me and I have saw this behavior out of this same admin with other members. hes actually been reported himself several times for his heavy handed tactics. :D

I'd just like to say that it has to be something pretty extreme on here for anyone to get upset by what has been said. It's pretty obvious what is malicious and what is said 'tongue in cheek'.

Maybe we are more tolerant and light hearted on here.

None of us really know each other, so who cares that much, really.

I like what I do know about the people here, and if there is one person who grates on me - I just ignore them for the most part.

Generally the language is polite - and we accept each others' funny little ways......... :)

yes the thing I enjoy about this place is you are allowed to have more of a sense of humor and the jokes and so forth here are usually quite brilliant. I think it was just disturbing to me to be given only one chance and then I am banned without any prior warnings or any example of the behavior that was so offensive. I think its only fair when you admonish somebody to give them an example of what they did wrong so it is not a repeated behavior. It is normal to not get along with everyone because we are all very different in our opinions and outlooks. However there seems to be a few who can do and say whatever they want repeatedly, get warned no telling how many times and the behavior continues. For some reason I got selected to only be given one chance and not even told what I actually did. I guess its hard to understand why I posted this I just felt so confused at it happening and I havent been on many forums before so I wondered if this is how it happens every where or was this an exception. And how do you handle other members trying to moderate your posts messaging you demanding you delete them and blocking them doesnt help. It really is a form of harrassment.
