catgate
Many many years ago when the world was still a reasonably civilised place, and the birds sang, and we had politicians who were almost honest, and we all worked in 8 bit, there was an operating system (OS to you modern types) called DOS (of various prefixes). A clever chap called Peter Norton devised a wonderful prog. called "Undelete" which strangly enough could undelete a deleted file. It simply went into the FAT and replaced the initial letter of the file name (the removal of which, in those days, was all that deleting required), with a letter which the user supplied, and hey presto the previous deletion was "undeleted", and, providing the disc space had not been used by something else, the file was retrievable. My question is this .."Is there a current prog. which will do a similar job?" i.e. retrieve a previously deleted file. I mean in addition to Bills "Recycle Bin". I am using Win 98 SE. catgate
I think this is a wonderful forum. There is something psychic about it. I asked the above question and, lo and behold, whilst perusing the rest of the entries in this topic/section I came across a previous entry by " pops " which may well be what I am looking for. Good old "pops".

trackrat
http://www.theabsolute.net/sware/dskinv.htmlThis is a brilliant little programme for bringing back deleted files.I have used it several times, once after a file had been deleted 2 months previously and it got it back.Works with all versions of windows. catgate
Thank you all for your help and welcome. I hope this forum is not as "straight laced" as one which I have just abandond as being too "over moderated". It surprises me just how artificially sensitive it is possible for people to become by living in these P.C. times. Though how anything political can possibly be correct has my jaw dropping in amazement.
