  1. Hello! I got a problem with Windows Vista start up. I decided to copy all DLL files from RecoveryCD System32 to the %windir%\System32. Now it does'nt matter what I chose in the Boot Menu ... it always boots a Start-up Recovery like if it was from a Recovery Boot CD. I tried to remove all the DLL files and copied a new files from the other WindowsVista (same version "starter")installation to System32, but with no result, it still booting in the Recovery mode. If I remove all files from the System32 then Windows does'nt start at all. I think that the bootmanager and something in a Windows folder are involved. I hope you undestood what I mean. Please help me!
  2. So a few months ago I downloaded Windows Defender and Windows Defender offline onto the worst laptop ever (my laptop). I downloaded Windows Defender, and it told me that a virus was detected that could only be fixed by downloading Windows Defender Offline onto a USB. So I downloaded it to my USB and booted to it. Windows Defender Offline detected a "virus" and asked me if the program could remove it, and I said yes. When it removed it, I shut down the PC and rebooted. When I rebooted though, the Blue Screen of Death would come up for a split second after bootup, and the system rebooted. This happens all the time, and now the only way I can access this computer is through Safe Mode. In the past few months, I've been backing up all 100 GB or so of my files onto a cloud storage website. I'm finally done and ready to reset this computer to system default. The problem is, I don't know how to do that on Vista Safe Mode. Can anyone tell me how?
  3. Alright, here's the deal. I built a PC, it works beautifully but here's the OS situation... I used my Laptop's Factory OS install disc, which doesn't ask for anyything at all it just makes your HDD Windows Vista. Awesome. Well I had a formatting issue later caused by all kinds of BIOS whoopsies... to straighted that out, I upgraded Vista to Windows 7 because I had a Windows 7 upgrade just sitting around. Well the problem is I installed Windows 7 Home Premium but my CD key is for Professional. Now Windows (rightfully) thinks my copy of windows isn't genuine because the genuine one would be Windows 7 pro. I tried entering the Windows pro key into the anytime upgrade thing but that didn't work and I dont know enough about windows to do anything other than just reinstall my OS... which I will do if I have to... I just dont want to. And I would just leave it ungenuine longer but I got a webcam and there's a drivers issue and windows is freezing the device saying it won't handle the drivers because my windows isn't legit... which is fair. It's not legit. But I have a CD key plz let me use it. I just dunno how.
  4. Hello. So my computer had a default program (I don't know which program) to open zip. files. The Zip folders appeared normally (the icon with a folder with a ziper) and when I clicked them with the right button they gave me the option to "extract files". I had instaled one program (Express Zip) I don't remember why, and when I did it gave another option when doing that, besides "extract files" it had another option to open the folders with that program. However, today I mistakenly choose the option to open with Express Zip and it said it had to install some components. So I did, and it changed the appearance of the folders and when realized what I had done, I uninstaled it. Thats when the problem begun. I checked the folders again and they didn't have any icon, just a blank thing (like when you don't have any program to open RAR and it doesn't recognize the type of file). When I clicked it, no options where there. They were all gone, both "extract files" and "extract with expres zip". My computer didn't recognize it, and just had the option to chose the program to open the file, but all it shows is chrome and internet ex.. I reinstalled the program and it didn't work, so I tried to install winzip but it still didn't work. I tried to turn off and on my computer but it was the same. Can anyone help me please? I don't know what happened, I just uninstalled Express Zip and this happened. Thanks, Tiago.
  5. I'm running on a Windows Vista 32-bit and I just recently received the FBI Moneypak virus. I used Norton's Power Eraser to get rid of all potential virus files on my computer. Unfortunately, in doing this, I deleted an important file and now my computer won't turn on in anything but Safe Mode. The good news is that Power Eraser will let me restore any deleted files I want. I just don't know which ones are bad, and which are good. Here are the files: n (shell extension) 7ca835.exe (startup item) alin.exe (startup item) mseoah.exe (startup item) Thanks in advance!
  6. My friend asked me about an issue he was having and I was slightly baffled at the issue and don't have the computer to work on it myself so I'm looking for some suggestions to tell him. The start menu will not open if you click on it, however if you press the windows key it'll open and then files/programs can be opened and files can be opened from his desktop. The computer has been powered off several times and still the start menu will not open when clicked on. I'm not familiar with Windows 7/Vista to know off hand what this could be and I've never encountered this problem in XP. Any ideas what to try or is there a solution for this? Thank you!
  7. Hi, I'm new here, and I kind of need some help...Anyways, I had Visual Basic 6.0 on my computer (I have Windows Vista) for a while, and it worked completely fine. Then one day my hard drive died and I had to replace it. I tried to install VB again, but I just get a window saying the program is blocked due to compatibility issues. What I don't understand why can't I install this now when I had before? Also, using the new Visual Studio isn't really a solution for me since it can't open my old programs that I really need to use. Any help is appreciated!
