Since then it's been a pig, shutdowns, error messages the works. Although my main machine is W2K I want to keep running a '98 box so that I can help out with peeps '98 problems. andsome Posted June 23, 2004 Report Share Posted June 23, 2004 When I ran Windows 98, after upgrades to IE, you could go to the control panel, and IE was shown there, in ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Click on UNINSTALL, and you should be given the option to REPAIR or REVERT to a previous IE. I'm sure that my memory is correct on this one. My 98SE setup is based on a Windows 98 CD which contains IE 4, so I don't have 5.5 available in that action. There is no 'revert' option anyway, just 'repair'. 'Revert' is greyed out. That can't be the entire browser, surely ? I thought IE was a big fat bloated thing. Opera is about 3.5 Meg without Java.I guess I'll have to do a complete O/s install unless someone knows how to uninstall IE 6 from a 98SE machine ? -pops- Posted June 23, 2004 Report Share Posted June 23, 2004 I've always failed in removing IE6 from any installation - it wasn't meant to be removed from anywhere, I'm sure.Even if you do remove most of it, there are always niggly bits lurking around to catch you unawares.It is probably because Gates was miffed at being told by the US courts that he had to put IE6 as an option rather than an essential part of Windows that he made it such a pig to remove.I think your best policy is, as you suggest, a clean re-install of 98SE, especially as you are getting lots of errors and shutdowns.
