In a Daze with Days

Now here is a little problem that has bothered me for quite a long time, and which, I am sure, can be answered by the combined brain capacity of this forum. It concerns the days of the week.

Today is Tuesday, and obviously tomorrow will be Wednesday, but where has Monday gone, and where will Wednesday come from? Obviously Monday has to go somewhere, to be stored, until the next time it is needed. Likewise Wednesday must now be somewhere waiting for its curtain call.

I have always thought that there must be a "somewhere round the back" where they all go. I assume that whilst they are there they will be laundered (or dry cleaned) and ironed, and any rips or tears mended or darned, and the binding at the edged repaired, before being stacked ready for their next appearance. They always come back looking like new so they must get a good valeting.

Additionally they always return the right way round i.e. they arrive with morning at the leading edge and night at the trailing edge.

It is so well organised and professionally managed that I am at a loss to know who does it, and where?

Can anyone help, please?

To add to the mystery. Why do Mondays seem much longer than Fridays.

Presumably the storage and day preparation staff have some time off over the week-end and therefore rush their preparation of Mondays which are then ill equipped to get through the 24 hours at the correct rate.

This must have been going on for many years because most people are programmed to hate Mondays - it's in their genes.

NOFX wrote a great song about mondays...

"Thank God It's Monday"

Monday is my favorite time of year

I'm gonna tell you what I really think I like about Mondays

Cause they feel like Saturdays

When you don't gotto go to work

Every day is a holiday

I wake up when I want to

I do anything I wanna do

Can't wait for Tuesday

I really never liked Fridays (I don't)

I can't do what I wanna do (Like to)

Sold out at the movies (Go out)

Can't eat at the restaurants (Weekends)

Everybody want a good time

But the bar's full of cigarette smoke

I think I'll stay home

I think I'll wait for Monday

I live a 5 day weekend

I gotta year long holiday

Thank God it's Monday

The only place that I gotta go be

Is at the show or on the first tee

Thank God for irony

Nevermind the aggravation, modulation

Gimme another key

I'll tell you why I like Tuesdays (Wednesday)

Cause the're kinda like Christmas (New Years)

Come to think about Wednesdays (Thursday)

Are a little like Hanukkah (Every day is good)

Thursday's Thanksgiving

I'm talking about good living

I'll think I give thanks

Thank God it's monday

Of course there is that famous poem by Bert Entwhistle. Catgate will know this one.

It must be the end of Tuesday,

'Oh good', I hear you cry,

You can always tell it's Wednesday tomorrow,

As the Sun sets behind the house on the corner.

It's great being retired.  ALL days are the same length and all of equal importance.  Within reason you can do want you want on any day.

I have found that these sentiments are usually expressed by the "relatively recently retired" who are expressing them to convince themselves, rather than others.

Personally I went through a guilt phase. Every morning when I woke up I got this guilty feeling as though I should not be at home but should be away "steering industry". The feeling used to last..oh...sometimes all of two and a half second, but then it was gone. This period of guilt lasted more than a fortnight.

I retired five years ago when the boss caused me to have a nervous breakdown. I am loving every minute of it, and wouldn't go back to work if you paid me to.
