When I wizz of a label in Nero it prints it to a CD shaped sticky piece of paper.

I then peel back the sticky bit and place it on this plastic thing, i lower the CD onto a plate and push down. The CD sticks to the paper and hey presto I have my label on my CD.

Not very technological and primitive one would say.

But it works...

BUT...what do use to get the sicky bit onto the CD?

Or do you have a fancy CD drive that can burn the label on the disk.

I print a CD Label and use a spring loaded Plastic gizzmo from 'Pressit' to apply the label to the CD.

Again quite a primitive method but is works well

I write on mine with a CD marker pen.

I read in a trade mag that it is not recommended to use stick-on labels on CD's for two reasons.

It can introduce out of balance causing disc wobble in high speed drives and possible damage.

The adhesive can damage the disc and eventually make it unreadable.

(Perhaps the claims were being made by a felt tip pen maker)

I think the claims made about adhesive labels damaging optical discs may have some validity.

If you look carefully at a CD or DVD you will see that the sandwiched reflective layer (the working bit) is much nearer the top of the disc i.e. the top slice of the sandwich is thinner than the bottom so, contrary to what may be thought, the top surface is vulnerable to damage as well as the lower one. This damage could be the adhesive, or the solvent used in the adhesive, of a sticky label leaching down through the relatively thin top of the sandwich and into the reflective layer.
