Sweeties

I was in the shop today buying a newspaper... and I looked behind the counter and thought that it's a shame that you don't see jars of sweets anymore like you did when I was a kid.

I used to go to the sweetshop and buy 2oz of sherbert pips and get them in a paper bag... and they always stuck together and to the paper bag. If you bought hundreds and thousands you got loads for your 2ozs.

Then there were mojos and fruit salads and those black ones... the liquorice ones! I used to get four for a penny! :)

We do still see them sold that way down here - but we are somewhat in the backwoods

I recently had candy floss on the sea front at Hunstanton (during October) - took home 2 bags of chocolate honeycomb pieces .... hmmmmm !

(hey, I'm a Scot - why am I talking about 'honeycomb' ? - the real name for it is 'puff candy').

Also just remembering the time my big brother offered me one of his sherbet lemons ... he had taken the sherbet out and replaced it with salt ... I've still never forgiven him.

My brother did horrible things too..........like when he came in with a HUGE rockery spider hanging on his finger - caused havoc!!!

Black Jacks.

I remember a "friend" reconstructed some of these out of dirty grey Plasticine and put them back in the wrappers. The laugh was on him, though, as he picked a Plasticine one from the selection when offering them around. Hope it tasted nice :D It didn't as he threw up afterwards.

(Isn't it odd, the strange things you remember. That must have been 50+ years ago)

My dad's arachniphobic, and I used to walk in the house with huge garden spiders. I was able to make my dad "go to his room" when I was six by bringing spiders in the house!

i can't buy black jacks anymore :(

you can only buy black jack bars and they cost 10p each!

:( :( :(

With a name like that, I'm surprised they're on sale at all. Where's the politically correct mob?

Am I right in remembering that the real Black Jacks had a golly on the wrapper?

3d slabs of toffee (thats when I had my own teeth) :D

Palm Toffee?

My favourites in those were the chocolate and the banana ones. The banana flavour was made up like a sandwich - a yellow centre and brown outers.

Aaaaaah! Nostalgia ain't what it used to be :(

Hmmmm, what about Love Hearts.  They used to say things like Be Mine and Oh Boy.  Now it's Text Me and Email Me  Even Love Hearts have come bouncing into the 21st century!

Saw them in Tesco this morning.
