Chris
It's a rather general question besty...I mean you could get alot for £1000.You just need to know where to shop, what you need and what you want.Alienware seem to have come down in price :o yup I said come down :o errrrr oh sales  Alienware.co.uk | Configure your system besty and see if you like what you would be getting with a nice price.Evesham usually have some nice systems and again configure and see what you would get. Or if your near one of their showrooms pop in and see what offers they have. I can personally recommend evesham as i've had a desktop and laptop from them abd they're superb!A quick look at meshcomputers reveal a few nice systems. If your a keen gamer then concentrate on the graphics card.
Besty
Cheers powerless. I realy am concentrating on gaming. I will be asking you guys advice on the selection i have narrowed it down to :D
scuzzman
My advice: build onethere's not a cheaper route, and you know exactly what goes in itcheck out the following 2 sites:http://www.newegg.comhttp://www.pricewatch.comDon't buy prebuilt if you have the cash up front. Also - go for nVidia gfx cards, AMD 64-bit processors, and if you're running windows, dont bother with XP Home - go Pro
expertec
BTW, I can recommend Evesham as well.... using one right now to type this :)

-pops-
Is there someone local to you who could build exactly to your own specification?Best thing about a local builder, in addition to getting what you want, is that they're there if anything goes wrong without waiting forever on the end of a phone or not getting replies to emails and so on and so on. I have heard so many horror stories of people hanging on for anything up to an hour on premium rate help lines. At the end of this time, you are quite likely to be told, "oh it's this or that part, we'll dispatch one to you". When you mention the SO CALLED on site warrant, the reply is likely to be that they can't possibly get anyone there for the next three weeks, can't you fit it your self. Also you get software installed that you may never require. They say it is provided free, but this is rubbish, no company gives anything worthwhile away free. Talk over with your local supplier, exactly what you want, and what you want the machine for, and you will probably get delivery within a week, and only pay for exactly what you want to pay for. Besty
Madboy I have xp so it doesnt realy matter. I am uncertain about using a local builder as I am scared of getting ripped off
-pops-
Find your local supplier from recommendations of people that have used him/her/them.You can easily get ripped off by one of the big suppliers as well, you know.
andsome
Visit a local shop during what should be a busy period, and see if they are busy. Mingle with the other customers and ask a few questions. If everything seems OK , go back when it's quieter and discuss with him/her just exactly what you want from the machine. Ask for a written quotation listing all the bits and pieces. Post the spec on here and I'm sure that several of the regulars will give you an opinion as to the value for money. You have to bear in mind that of course you would be able to buy most of the bits and pieces a little cheaper elsewhere on line, but that he/she does have shop premises to run and pay for. In my own case a couple of years ago, I found that I had paid average list prices for the components, and that he had assembled the lot at this list price, with nothing added on. He was obviously satisfied with his profit margins on the components.
