Belatucadrus
Without wishing to sound ageist, at 78 Pope Benedict is getting on a bit, the oldest elected pope of the 20Th century was ST. PIUS X 1903 - 1914 who was 68 when selected. Looks like a conservative choice to consolidate John Pauls work, but unlikely to be another 27 year pope. A shame that the successor has to be so old. But, perhaps he will make significant and positive changes during his relatively short tenure. andsome
The whole problem with the Catholic church is as I have mentioned before. It is run by old men who have NO experience of a normal family life and normal family relationships. A man of that age who has NEVER been married, is expected to make rulings affecting women and children and families in general. The whole set up is ludicrous,

To countless millions in the third world it is a problem. Because of this brainwashing they are scared to use a condom and practise safe sex, so the incidence of aids is rocketing, and is now a threat to countless generations in the future. Hundreds of thousands of children are now born with aids. I have not heard of a commandment which says that thou shalt not take measures to prevent the spread of a disease, which has now reached epidemic proportions, and thou shalt also go forth and multiply to the extent that man will eventually choke to death in his own effluent, if the aids does not wipe out countless millions in the mean time. Any religion is man made, and handed down generation upon generation, getting more and more twisted in meaning as it does so. By all means worship your God, whatever you choose to call him/her, but you do not need the teaching of men in funny hats and frocks to be a good person. Agent Smith
I have not heard of a commandment which says that thou shalt not take measures to prevent the spread of a diseaseAndsome, I should point out that this is in effect covered by the "Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbours Wife" commandment. This forbids sex between unmarried couples, which if followed would mean that aids would not be an issue. Especially as the Churches deciphering of this would also include the forbidding of homosexual sex.Any religion is man made, and handed down generation upon generation, getting more and more twisted in meaning as it does so. By all means worship your God, whatever you choose to call him/her, but you do not need the teaching of men in funny hats and frocks to be a good person.I have to agree with you on this though :clapping:

We have to be practical here, and acknowledge the fact that the Catholic doctrine if practised to the to Nth degree would effectively mean the end of the world. with mankind drowning in it's own effluent, or simple standing shoulder to shoulder with damn all to eat. I just cannot believe that God implied this.
