We eventually gained entry to what was to become a free market area. We eventually had a referendum as to whether or not we should stay in the "Common Market" as it was called. the country voted YES. At NO time did we in this country envisage a super state of Europe run by an unelected commission, with a lame duck European parliament nodding through legislation produced, and thought up by this rag tag bunch of over paid and unelected bureaucrats. I think I can safely say that there would still probably be a large majority in this country in favour of a common market free trade area. The word "free" signifies "without restriction". However the idea was to restrict free trade to a specific area, ie the common market. In a properly run world I can see no reason at all to restrict free trade to any specific area...but then I am not an ego ridden, warped, gravy train passenger, with pretentions to eventually rule the world.
