I expect to be staying with Virgin Media, ex NTL for the following reasons. We used to spend about £25 to £30 per month on inland calls plus the line rental. We now pay £20.95 per month to include the line rental and all calls with numbers starting 01 or 02, at any time of the day. So we know EXACTLY what our bill will be. I am of course on cable broadband, so get as near as dammit to the stated connection speeds, I usually clock in at 3900 kbps PLUS download, and 390 kbps PLUS upload. I appreciate the fact that this is dearer than Talk Talk, but there is NO WAY that I am prepared to reinstate my BT land line and use that service. My friend has Talk Talk, and I have spent no end of time round at her house sorting things out. Things are now stable and working as well as can be expected. Her download speed checks out now at about 2.5 times dial up speed. They live about four miles from the exchange, and Talk Talk claim that this is the best that can be achieved. I'll stick with cable.I sent my TV box back a couple of years ago as I had no end of trouble with four replacements for it, it was a PACE model. I used Sky for a little over a year, but got fed up with paying about £24 per month so cancelled that service. Virgin have now contacted me and offered a different make of digital box, and ALL the programmes except Sky sports and films for £1 per month. I an going to give that a months trial, and will get the new box later this month.That to me sounds like an excellent deal as even if you get loads of repeats, it's only costing you 25p a week B) I think that Virgin Media want to get as many subscribers as they can as they are now 'at war' with Sky. ranger Posted May 10, 2007 Report Share Posted May 10, 2007 I wa thinking of going with the Virgin package at £30 (TV, phone, 2mb BB) I currently pay Bulldog £30 for phone and unlimited 8mb BB. The advantage was that the TV signal wouldn't have bad interference during bad weather and some extra channels, but the speed of the BB kinda held me back, i'm glad it did, I just read there that if you download over 350mb during peak times your speed is throttled to 1mb for 4 hours.I don't download a lot of torrents etc. and probably on most occasions wouldn't reach the limit but I do look at PC's laptops etc for friend and family, for example I was reformatting laptops yesterday and putting in clean copies of XP, by the time I downloaded updates from Microsoft and various manufacturers and my normal surfing I would have been well over 350mb. Why don't they throttle the ones who are continually abusing the connection (only 5% they claim) as opposed to punishing the other 95% who don't, i'm afraid they have now lost a potential customer. The full deal is that we will receive every channel that they broadcast for £1 per month for a year, except for Sky films and sports, we can then pay the full price for all channels, or stay on £1 per month for 82 channels or thereabouts. We also have access to over 500 films pay as you go, and several thousands of videos etc. We can also access a range of previously broadcast programmes which we missed or want to see again, and can fast forward or rewind these at will, as we can on the pay per view films. It seems a very reasonable deal to me. While I was on, I mentioned Broadband, and said that I was not happy with the fact that there are no immediate plans to increase the speed of the 4 meg service. He offered me a years free trial of the 20meg service at no extra cost, which naturally I did not refuse. The box was installed this morning, and sure enough we have the complete compliment of all channels, and the access to the previously broadcast programmes works a treat. I am a happy little bunny. I bet your pleased that you ditched Sky now.Too true, although the only reason that I was offered this deal was because I ditched NTL TV in the first place, due to problems with PACE didgital boxes. The new box is Samsung, and I hope that it is better than Pace, otherwiswe I will break their windows.
