andsome Posted November 19, 2007 Report Share Posted November 19, 2007 We buy the grandchildren several presents each, BUT NOT TO EXCESS. We buy our own kids one or two gifts each too. As regards ourselves, it's usually a small gift to open on the day, and a visit to the sales if there is anything we need afterwards. We don't feel the need for spending a lot on gifts, we have most of what we ant in any case. As in Alan's case, our main spend is on food and drink. I doubt whether we spend much above a couple of hundred pounds spread over three grandchildren, and our own kids, and our son in law, and sons girlfriend. We just buy some small silly gifts now.It just the food and drink for us too.I usually catch up with people far and wide with the cards and generally write about 10 letters. Some garden centres rope a section off in late July to start preparing for Christmas. We saw a Santa walking through Cannock shopping centre on a warm and sunny day several weeks ago. We can expect the first easter eggs in the shops well before the beginning of January. NO I am not being an old Scrooge. Massive spending to the point of going into debt is not the best way to enjoy yourself. We will enjoy the season as much as anyone else and still be solvent at the end of it.
