This is exceptionally loa as it is in the middle of the day, and to my knowledge never goes below this level. It is nrmally well in excess of 3900kb. AlanHo Posted November 29, 2007 Report Share Posted November 29, 2007 I used to have a 4 GB virgin media cable connection - but changed to 2 GB recently after reviewing my phone-TV-broadband package.Despite halving the connection speed, I can honestly say that I cannot detect any difference. Most of the software sites I visit for update downloads are busy and have limited speeds anyway - so even big downloads seem to be as fast. I get virtually what it says on the tin day in and day out., as can be seen above. No complaints at all. I have never met anyone yet using zen they all seam to be on bt/ AOL/ virgin / and pretty bad they are should you ever need to use there customer service and yes i have tried but thankfully I'm now at a stage where i don't need to anymore. None the less it aways a pain when your helping someone for free in there home and they use cheap isp and your trawling the web at a snails space usually because of throttling the cable companies are the worst for this. Just pop in anytime to the think broadband forum and take a look at what's going on with the above isp's. The bottom line in life and the majority of businesses will understand who use zen you get what you pay for and i pay £25 a month for a 20 gig allowance and in my book that's exceptional value for money.Of course there will always be exception's to the above and AOL / bt/ virgin etc are great but i just have never seen it that's all :( Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CurlyWhirly Posted December 3, 2007 Report Share Posted December 3, 2007 The bottom line in life and the majority of businesses will understand who use zen you get what you pay for and i pay £25 a month for a 20 gig allowance and in my book that's exceptional value for money.I agree with what you say.I migrated to Zen around 18 months after having enough of AOL's customer service which was dire.I live a long way from the exchange and am only on a 3 Mb profile but I always get around 2950 Kbps at any time of day meaning that Zen's network is uncongested and there is no throttling of any kind.From what I understand the situation to be, Virgin cable is okay providing that you don't download too much at peak times as if you do then they use traffic shaping to reduce the strain on their network.Speeds should be okay at all other times which is in stark contrast to Virgin ADSL (i.e. using the BT network) where there is simply not enough capacity as I presume that Virgin are reluctant to invest in more Centrals to increase capacity probably because of the cost. CurlyWhirly Posted December 4, 2007 Report Share Posted December 4, 2007 Why do we need faster broadbandI need faster speed as I live a long way from the exchange and can only get 3 Mb.If I lived closer to the exchange then I would be happy.3 Mb is usable at the moment but in time as websites get larger to accomodate video then my connection will become slower and slower as the video rich content will take longer to load :( As only around 50% of the UK population has access to cable, I think that the whole of the UK should be able to get it but money is a stumbling block as no one wants to pay for the upgrade.In my opinion if the Government can afford to shell out £24 Billion to 'prop up' the Northern Rock bank then they can afford to help BT with the costs of laying fibre to non-cable areas.BT is currently rolling out it's 21st Century Network at an alleged cost of £10 Billion.In my opinion this money would be put to better use in laying fibre to the parts of the UK that can't get cable as Virgin Media have no plans to expand the existing network.If this upgrade went ahead then the UK would be more 'future proof' as far as broadband is concerned.
