AlanHo Posted January 28, 2008 Report Share Posted January 28, 2008 AN ODE TO RUINED TROUSERSManagement did some washing - some towels, new dress, some blousesI wish she’d not included - my very favourite trousersI bet you think this tale of woe - is about dye running from her dressAnd ruining my favourite trousers - making them a sorry messIf so, your guess is very wrong - the disaster was much worseSo bad in fact that both of us - had a right good curseWhilst she popped out to see some friends - she left the washer working And when at last she got back home - a burning smell was lurkingShe checked each room in the house - and couldn’t find the reasonUntil she got the washing out - the sight was far from pleasingBig holes burned in all the clothes - my trousers were no more Her brand new dress was ruined - that she had hardly woreBut the washing it was damp - how could water burn ?It all seemed quite impossible - so to an expert we did turnThe repair man came and tutted - he’d not seen this beforeHe examined the machine - and then gave us the score..........“The solenoid valves gone wonky - the level switch is bustedThe thermostats completely dead - corroded up and rustedThey conspired to fail together - and the heater got red hotWith no water in the washing drum - which the level switch d’aint spotThe thermostat ignored it - the heater just glowed onUntil the clothes caught fire - and most of them were goneBut the rinse cycle worked - and put the burning outThat’s why the clothes were damp” - with pride the man did shout“I can fix it good as new - but it will cost much money”Levity at such a time - We didn’t find too funnyThe moral of this sorry tale - stay home to do the washingAnd make sure it fills with water - you can tell by sounds of splashingAnd if your machine’s a Hotpoint - you better get it checkedIf your new dress and favourite trousers - are not to get quite wrecked. AlanHo Posted January 28, 2008 Author Report Share Posted January 28, 2008 Yes - it was indeed the tale of the demise of our 10 year old washing machine a couple of weeks ago. A cousin and myself have corresponded for some years in verse - I simply copied part of an Email I sent him yesterday.It was rather impressive - but confusing - to open up the machine and find the washing quite wet but with holes burned in it. I say burned - a more accurate description might be scorched into holes because I doubt it was much of a conflagration. Good job - it could have set the kitchen on fire otherwise. We have now decided not to leave the washing machine running whilst we are out. Also we will no longer set it to run in the night when we are in bed. Safety comes before economy 7. Hotpoint fare better - but still get a poor report.If you want a good machine according to Which - go for Meile, Bosch, Siemens, Tricity Bendix, Neff or John Lewis. My new kitchen now has all new Neff appliances. It was with great reluctance that I disposed of my free-standing Hotpoint Aquarius Washing Machine & Dish Washer. I've sold them on eBay - the buyers have a great product in excellent order. I have retained my Panasonic Combination oven - just couldn't make the final break!! (It's being temporarily stored in the garage, just in case I have withdrawal problems).The Neff equipment looks the business, but OMG what a learning curve to learn to use all the new appliances!!
