d1774n Posted February 5, 2008 Report Share Posted February 5, 2008 Basically,When i turn my pc on everything works fine and i log on enter my password and what not, but then, all of a sudden. The pc's screen just goes onto standby and the pc is just a sitting duck! I press loads of keys to see if it makes the beep noise its supposed to make and it dont, and i want to know if it is a hardware problem, software problem and how to fix it.Pc specs:AMD Athlon 64 2.01ghz1gb ramNvidia gforce 5500 256mb ramtwo 150gb sata hard drivesand thats all i can think of right now but tell me if u needs to know anything else! and windows vista ultimate 32bitThanks!!!p.s. this does not always happen when i log on, but afterwards too like an hour or two later Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Scarecrow Man Posted February 5, 2008 Report Share Posted February 5, 2008 Boot into safe-mode and uninstall any Video drivers. Upon rebooting, install the latest updated version for your card. You will also want to make sure you refresh settings are set to a mode your display is capable of supporting. 100Hz will not work on a 75Hz monitor for example. catgate Posted February 6, 2008 Report Share Posted February 6, 2008 You must have a 'utility' that tells you about temperatures and fan speeds and such like if your MB is anything like recent manufacture...which it must be if it takes SATA drives. Alan2273 Posted February 6, 2008 Report Share Posted February 6, 2008 Try going into the BIOS, it will tell you on the first screen what to press to enter the BIOS, (normally the delete button)under one of the headings you will find the temperatures .I intend to agree with scarecrow man, I do not think it is cooling related. d1774n Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 12, 2008 What processor does the PC have ?well ive said it in my first post but ill say it again: AMD Athlon 64 2.01ghz :( now, ive turned the pc on, freeze, restart, freeze and then a bunch of words came up about my graphics card then kept restarting then it just wuldnt do anything, the pc is on but nothing on screen for a long while restarting. then when it started working, but then just after it said boot from cd it said in capital letterS something like disk error please insert system cd and press enter then i did it... froze. then i put the windows xp disk in and reistalled everything to scratch and then when it logged on the whole pc is very very very slow and non-responsive and now i have given up. I am going to clean up the dust from the inside of the pc just to see if there will be a difference but i doubt there will. Any help, i really dont know whats wrong with it! If the Num lock or Caps lock LED remain the same, your pc is hang.You may have a problem harddisk which cause windows to shutdown unexpectedly. I just want to know why it is restarting and i know for a fact its not the os because i have rebooted with several os's and still had no success. Try replacing the memory or if your computer is a Dell or HP, try running a diagnostic test on the memory, you can do this by using the diagnostic cd that came with your computer or getting it from the manufacturer. 1GB memory for Vista Ultimate isn't enough I have it installed on one of my computers and I to upgrade to 2GB to get it to run correctly.
