JVC in East Kilbride have decided it will close it's doors with the loss of 360 jobs. They are moving to Poland.

Well it is only a matter of time. It is surprising how many "British" companies are owned by Overeseas Companies and "foreigners".

The British Government itself is "owned" and financed by non-doms.

That's what happened last month with my regular job of nearly 17 years duration - G. Costa went to Poland :(

I'm now working as a temporary agency worker so job security has gone now :(

I reckon if you do that you will finish up wandering around stark naked and extremely hungry. probably staring at a blank wall.

I remember about nine years ago Continental Tyres in Edinburgh closed shop with the loss of eight hundred jobs. I had a Saab at the time and about nine months after they closed shop I needed some new tyres. I rang my local tyre dealer and asked him for a couple of Continentals as I have always liked them. No, I haven't got any, you will be lucky to get some anywhere in Scotland or England since they closed shop. He was right, after about fifty phone calls around the Borders Region (both sides) I couldn't find a dealer that had any, or, could order any.

A year later I bought a new car, a Nissan. One day while I was washing it I noticed the tyres that were on it and they were Continental, made in Portugal. I had a brother-in-law working for Nissan in Washington at the time and he told me that is where Continental had moved to from Edinburgh.

Cheap labour comes to mind.

I started my own Business in 1975 with £80.00 Holiday pay. I was successful as things turned out and ran that company until I sold it on in 1996. I'd had enough by then.

This Government and preceding Government's have given no encouragement to young businesses just starting up. We were expected to pay full ground rates for Warehousing, full rent to local Government and certainly no Tax inducements from Government to help us on our way. It's no wonder that businesses starting up fall at the first hurdle, and existing businesses are leaving the Country to find cheaper methods of producing their goods. There are no good reasons to stay in Britain at the current tax and labour rates.

As I mentioned, I sold my business in 1996 after struggling to get it off the ground in 1975, but it was worth the struggle in the end. Having said that I am pleased I'm well away from it all now,

Yes businesses are hardly likely to stay here if business taxes keep going up!

I read that the government have recently changed Capital Gains tax and the result is that big businesses pay less CG tax whilst small and medium businesses pay more.

Apart from having a lower wage bill in Poland, G. Costa said that Polish business taxes were less and the wholesale costs were less as packaging, etc. was cheaper so they can afford to reduce their prices making them more competitive.

I read a recent article (I can't find it now) where the third largest pharmaceutical firm is moving to Eire as business taxes are less than in the UK.
