Big problem is that he has not spent wisely or well and now that the global economy has taken a beating, he's up the creek in a leaky boat with no paddle. His other problem is that he's such an appalling character that beyond a very few cronies whose future is tied to him and are going to end up flipping burgers when he sinks, there's nobody to help him out of the clag. Tankus Posted June 1, 2008 Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 gordon ...not flash ..please flush feels like we're running full tilt into a real economic disaster worse than the 70's , there is no way real inflation is running at 2.5% , when fuel , power, public transport ,and staple foods are in double figure rises , and house prices are in freefall , , they should not include consumer electronics as these are being margin squeezed because retailers are sitting on loads that need to be shifted (overstocked due to the bombing of the house prices)they are being used to skew the figures .....Its political denial ...... doesn't matter who gets in after tha'broon has burnt the books and shredded the evidence (why he needs another two years )... I think we are stuffed ..... regardless of who gets in .... the damage has already been done Ive got vague memories of the power cuts , overflowing bins and queueing with my dad at the pumps for petrol back in the 70's , this will be worse this Christmas , methinks , particularly if its a cold one ...I'm now saving hard ..for a lot of future rainy days .... You may well recall that frequently in the past, some members pilloried me and one or two others for our opinions of B'liar. I think we are now well and truly vindicated. He was a little Hitler of the worst kind, with the largest ego of any politician before him. El Gordo and his hoppo's sure have inherited the biggest mess of any of any political bunch before them. catgate Posted June 1, 2008 Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 I think it is necessary to take into account who it was that put Cyclops into the position of being able to create the current disaster.Bearing in mind that they were "friends" for a long time, the judgment shown by St Tony in his initial choice, and continued retention. of his Chancellor of the Exchequer was either extremely defective, making him a totally unsuitable person to be in charge of anything, or there was some other ulterior motive.Which ever way you view it the main responsibility for the current situation lies with Bliar. If I appoint the village idiot to do the book keeping for the village hall, and keep him in the job for years, even though the auditors find the books are rubbish, the final outcome must be my responsibility.It looks as though St Tony very carefully picked his time of departure, so as to be far enough away when the excrement hit the ventilator. Big problem is that he has not spent wisely or well and now that the global economy has taken a beating, he's up the creek in a leaky boat with no paddle.In the first few years, Labour stuck to the Tories (restrictive) spending plans but it didn't take long for 'New' Labour to go back to their 'Old' ways i.e. high tax and spend policies :( They fooled the electorate 3 times (including me) but now that they haven't put any money away for a 'rainy day', they can't cut taxes at a time when people need tax cuts more than ever to help with the increasing cost of living. CurlyWhirly Posted June 1, 2008 Report Share Posted June 1, 2008 I'm now saving hard ..for a lot of future rainy days ....Me too.I was made redundant around 2 months ago and I have managed my redundancy well by using some of it to pay some of my mortgage off and putting the maximum amount (£3,600) into a tax free cash ISA and I've never really been a saver before :0 I don't want to make the same mistakes that the government have made with their financial handling i.e. a Labour party deeply in the red along with the UK i.e. the national debt!
