AVG 8.0

Recommended Posts

Im new here so sorry if im posting in the wrong section..

I had AVG 7.5 and recently updated to 8.0, every time i switch the laptop on i have to update it manually which is rather annoying even thiough its only 2 clicks of a button.. Im going away next month and my mum will be using the laptop but doesnt have a clue what to do..

Does anyone know how i can make it so it updates its self or a link for 7.5... I have looked for a link for 7.5 but as 8.0 is the newest edition out it seems to direct me to that instead.

Thanks for any help guys! Much appreciated!!

I, too, have been disappointed with AVG 8 but for different reasons.

The suggestion by Scarecrow Man looks good and there are numerous other free A/V programs available.

Jen,

You are not alone! I have the same problem. Have you tried downloading the latest version, 8.0.101, released 23rd June from http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download?prd=afe#tba2? I tried and it had no effect but it may be worth having a go.

Also I can't find how to put my problem to the AVG Free forum, as it says I must registar by going into the Information Menu. But my version has not got this menu name.

Any ideas on this from anybody?

Jen, let us know how you get on.

Johnoo

check in the Advanced settings... Tools-> Advanced Settings-> Update in the Update Manager settings... it should be set to update immediately...

Then, if it is set to that, check to make certain the Update schedules ( both of them ) are set to update before the scan schedule is set to run... the update can't complete while a scan is running.

I think I must have a more User-friendly version than others ~ mine is 8.0.131, virus database version 270.4.2/1523

I have it set to update at 8am, then scan at 9am.

Works a treat. :D

All very strange, I have version 8.0.101 which was only released on the 23rd June.

It is set up to "Update Immediatley" and "Restart Immediatley"

There is no place to check the update schedules, see print, the schedules item has not got a + against it.

I am lost, any ideas?

Mine works fine as well, and I have version 8.0.101 with virus database version 270.4.2/1523. The only thing I would do is uninstall it and download it again, also have you aloud it in your firewall (ie. is it blocking it).

The only problem I found was that it cleaned out the Spyware Blaster database for IE (not a big problem as I don't use it), this didn't happen in the stand alone AVG antispyware.

This is my Update Screen....

If you look my screen is differant to Irenes, next to "Schedule" on irenes is a + this is not on mine hence i can't get into the schedule to adjust/set.

the updatye screen is set the same as Irenes.

You ask is the Firewall blocking it, answer I don't know, it is set to Medium, but i can't see if it's blocking.

I have found via the AVG Forum that it could be the Firewall that is causing the problem of not automatically updating.

I use a Firewall called NVidia.

They say on the AVG forum that it is problematical, and the only solution to my problem is to change Firewalls.

I am not doing that as it could cause other problems.

Or change your anti-virus programme! There are others available that seem to live peacefully with other security software, paid-for (ESET, Kaspersky, etc) & free (Avast, Anti-Vir, etc)...

Hey..

Well i went into settings and played around a little and its sorted!!

As soon as i connect to the internet, which i do as soon as i turn my laptop on, it automatically updates itself! Have had no problems since i did it the other day. I think the "update automatically when connect to the internet" box was unticked!!
