I'm surprised you say your FF addons won't work with the later version. I don't have any problems with mine. Which ones is it saying (or you are thinking) won't work

It would be wise to update FF in order to get the better security it offers over the previous versions. There shouldn't be any need to pay for any of them but some do put requests for a contribution to development costs - which you can ignore if you want.

Says these wont work.

Cooliris 1.8.5.14749

IE Tab 1.3.3.20070528

Adobe DLM 1.5.2.19

& Download Accelerator 8.0.6.5 which I can pay to update to a version that does work for around US$20. Current version is fine.

I think there is probably a newer version of cooliris but I do use the IE Tab and have no idea what Adobe DLM is for!

For downloads, I use DownLoadThemAll - which is a FF addon. I don't know if this is equivalent to the thing you're using but I find it very helpful.

IE Tabs can be obtained from: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/se...abs&cat=all

Cooliris: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/se...ris&cat=all

All of these have December 2008 updates so they should work.

I've stopped using Adobe Reader in favour of PDFXchange viewer http://pdf-xchange-viewer.en.softonic.com/

Do a backup before you try them - just in case :)

Another excellent download manager is Free Download Manager HERE. Integrates seamlessly with IE, no nag screens, no adware, no fee, no problems. Make sure you get it from a site with a green tick though. It will also save videos from YouTube, MySpace and GoogleVideo without a lot of hassle.

P.S. I've just checked the FDM home site again with SiteAdviser and it's rated orange. This seems to relate to some older versions. So make sure you get an uptodate & tested copy from a site such as Softpedia (HERE).

Thanks Pops - I use Foxit so can do away with Adobe.

Also can go get updates.

thing is though since I had such a shocking experience when my computer got fried and my backups were useless, I havent done any back ups at all.

I did buy this little stick that is usb and take 1GB of memory but havent used it as not sure if this is a back up system. or how to do it

Or is there a program that even I cant muck up ?

Lamb Chop, XP has it's own very good back-up utility. Go to All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Back Up. You'll need to study some instructions about how to use it though. A good starting point is Microsoft Help & Support's advice HERE. If you have XP Home you may not see Back Up listed, in which case you'll need to install it from the original disk. The MS article explains how to do that.

Vista has the utility in the same location I think.
