Thought for today - 31 January

I used to play Cricket for my school. Bowler, Batsman and Wicket Keeper and enjoyed the game. I didn't like football though and I still don't. :D

Maybe you can explain something to me. What is the point in playing for several days, and then praying for rain? As you know, I play bowls, and there is ALWAY a winner and a looser. Surely that is more meaningful? Football can end in a draw, but at least no one is praying for bad weather to stop the match, and if the weather did happen to get that bad, then the game is replayed.dizzy.gif

I can't explain why teams pray for rain as 'Rain stops play'. They must want to get in the Club-House for a pint or something. When I played we used to enjoy every minute of it and prayed for sunshine. :D

The Draw bit is just the same as Football. The better the batsman the more the runs. The better the bowler the less the runs. The object of course was to get more runs in than the other team with as fewer batsman as possible.

I wondered if it was the graceful rush to the mat, the placing of the leading foot, the forceful (but slow and steady) release of “the Wood”, followed by the slower and even steadier artistic and graceful “follow through”, leaving the arm at no more than about 9 degrees below horizontal for several seconds, whilst pursing the lips and blaspheming furiously.

But, as usual, I could be wrong.
