National Speed Camera Data Base

Many local authorities and Councils have joined a national speed camera data base which records all incidents where vehicles go past a speed camera at even 1mph over the set limit. You only get a ticket if you are way over the limit or - (this is the bit that I didn't know) - you will then be classed as a serial offender if you receive over 5 near misses and then get a ticket the next time you go just over the limit.

This is why you hear of people being done for 34mph in a 30mph limit area, whilst others doing 39 do not. You can check what has been registered against your vehicle at the following web address:

Just enter your car registration number. If there is any data on your vehicle that you are not aware of - you can click on the camera window to see a copy of the photograph.

I hope you find this useful.

I Emailed this message to all my friends and family this morning. Some of the responses have been hilarious - most recognised it to be an April Fool prank but 3 friends have taken it seriously.

One of them sent me a vitriolic Email accusing the government and Gordo Brown of further infringing civil liberties, human rights, Big Brother and Lord knows what.

andsome would have been proud to have been so articulate.

He is now researching to whom he can report the fact that his number plate has been cloned - he has a speeding ticket registered in Cornwall but has not been there for 2 years. I just sent him an Email advising him to click on the photo link (which he must have missed) to see the scoundrel who is impersonating him.

I await results.

We installed plastic reflective covers over the rear plates on our cars. Looking straight ahead you can read the plate numbers. When viewing from a 10+ foot height the plate numbers are totally distorted........thus denying speed and red light cameras (always mounted at least 10 feet high to prevent vandalism) from reading our plate informations and issuing us a ticket.
