-pops- Posted May 15, 2009 Report Share Posted May 15, 2009 A Second Thought for Today:On the subject of smoke detectors, a friend who is some bigwig in the fire service says that a large number of domestic smoke alarms do not have a battery installed because "It keeps making a noise". Also, a proportion have dead batteries as the people can't be bothered to replace them. Almost nobody tests them regularly.Is your smoke alarm functioning?Does it have a working battery less than two years old?Do you test your alarm at the recommended intervals?The sensor in a smoke alarm has a finite life and the date of replacement of the alarm is stamped somewhere on it or is written on the leaflet/manual. I do most of the cooking, but very often when management is doing the cooking they get tested, because she does not like the sound of the cooker hood's fans!!! Ours bleep according to the quality of the battery used.
