Anybody using AVG 8.5?

I am regularly posting updates regarding AVG 8.5 in the Updates forum, but it's getting a bit confusing (having the free and paid version in the same thread).

Actually now there are several different AVG 8.5 products around, and maybe they should also be addressed. (Or not.)

My question: is anybody actually using any AVG 8.5 products, and if so, which one(s) ?

It's a bit pointless to post updates for products that nobody is using...

I am using AVG Antivirus free edition version 8.5.375. on both Vista and Windows 7 installations

I am afraid that welcome as they are - I really have no need for your reminders. My AVG is set to automatically check for, and download updates every day.

People who have set their systems to manually update may need reminding however.

Thank you anyway.

I am using AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition, version 8.5.375

Mine is also set to auto update on a daily basis.

However, thanks for the the reminder Pat, I just had to check to reassure myself.

These are the update 'advanced' options....

Same here, using 8.5.392.

Your handy reminder is not required, thanks all the same.

I have the free version on this laptop & manually update whenever I switch it on. A pop-up appears if there's a new version available.

As for Windows Defender - haven't used it for a long time but if I remember correctly it has auto updates as the default setting, so there's probably also no need for reminders.

Thank you all; I will stop these useless - and sometimes difficult - update reminders.

And now for the next one... Windows Defender.

After my scathing comments about this program in the past I have been testing it again. So far it has found NOTHING. :D

P.S. Of course, this is another one that is automatic.

Since you've got ESET (like me) it probably won't. But it's agood idea to have a second line of defence just to make sure. I've been using WinPatrol Free. It's not a scanner, but warns me when certain changes are about to be made to the system - like installing a new add-on, etc.

  • 2 months later...

I'm using Windows Defender, AVG Free (8.5.420) and I also have WinPatrol, as well as lots of other stuff, so I think I'm well covered.

The only thing I've not found so far is an andsome-anti-ego button

(Oooo-er, I'd better cover my back with Admin and tell you I'm only joking, honestly)

You only get that option with a Linus OS.
