Hence it is argued that £1.99 appears to us dumclucks as much cheaper than a nice round £2.00.One of my elderly relatives was a shop manager at the time of decimalisation and argues that the original reason for pricing just below the round pound is much more subtle. He claims it was to ensure that the shop assistant had to ring the sale on the till to obtain the penny change - thus reducing the chance of the assistant pocketing the money and not ringing up the sale.Nowadays the check out procedure is quite different and the same argument hardly applies - so perhaps there is truth in the argument that us dumclucks are easily fooled....We are not all blondes though.............................
