I opened up my case last week to fit an extra hard drive and was rather surprised at the amount of dust therein because I gave the innards a good clean only 2 months ago.

The fan blades in particular were well crusted. I rather suspect that I went a bit OTT when I built the computer by adding extra case fans - it must resemble a wind tunnel in there and possibly recycles the air in the study at a high rate. Having the tower on a carpeted floor can't help either.

I made a small wooden plinth for my two to stand on. They are about three inches off the carpet. It makes all the difference.

I keep intending to do that - but other jobs get in the way. I have already bought 4 castors for it. I have a very heavy tower and it is situated under the worktop, making it difficult to slide out. I'm sure it will make a significant difference to the dust problem and will facilitate future maintenance.

I will put it on the list for next week......

Would that be the "must not do" or the "must do" list.

Neither - it will be on the ought to do list...............right after "get quotes for felling 3 trees and pruning others in back garden"............

It is now on the "Done and dusted" list. My tower is now riding a "skateboard" and well off the carpet.

Well done that man. You will notice a substantial decrease in the amount of dust that gets into the casing. :good:
