Hardware spec for a new PC....

Is it possible to use a laptop as a VDU for my old PC?

Otherwise it means I need to undo all of my neat and tidy cablework to the new one.

Can't be done. I'm sorry. The circuitry inside the laptop drives the display in a non-standard way -- you can't tap into that signal path.

Next question...

Has anyone installed/used Windows Live Essentials. I searched for Windows Movie Maker on my new Windows 7 PC - It's not included. :0

It's now part of Windows Live Essentials.

I am trying to decide which video/movie creator software to install. Any recommendations?

I did something that I doubted would work - but it did.

I simply copied my old Windows Movie maker folder from my Vista computer and pasted it into Windows 7 programs folder. It works fine.

I also downloaded Windows Live Essentials and tried the version of Movie maker available there. It differs slightly - but is still my favourite video editing program because it is so easy to use.

You need to be careful with Windows Live Essentials that you don't download stuff you are not interested in - Windows Messenger in my casae.

I absolutely agree.

It looks as if you can select the programs before downloading - is that correct?

Yes - just leaves ticks on those you want to download.
