dave20122011
Hi,There are lot of software that people install that work only when opening them (like open office and others). As for open office and LiberOffice, do they affect the windows performance if they are installed, but not opened (Do they use any resources while not in use)?In general, softwares that are installed and in order to use them you must open them, do they use any resources while not in use? Thanks,Dave
Gandalph
No they don't. They will only use resources when they are opened and running. The types of software that use resources run in the background of the Computer when it is booted up. Like Antivirus programs.
bludgard
A lot of programs have something running in the back-ground.Take Adobe Flash Player: If one checks Task Manager one might find (if Adobe Flash hasn't been configured otherwise) a quick-launch and updater service running even if there isn't a web-page open.Study the operations of installed software and configure it as you wish. There are a myriad of stand-alone (no install) programs that can assist in this undertaking.

I have yet to study the workings on such machines/OSs....Thanks for any enlightenment.
Belatucadrus
Open & LibreOffice can take a sizeable chunk out of RAM resources in general use, but only if you activate the Quickstart application. I've never seen the point.
