Agnitum Outpost free security suite.

Agnitum are a company with a head office in Cyprus but operating out of St Petersberg Russia.

I’ve been testing the Outpost Free security suite for a few months now and it generally seems OK the software is stable, the firewall is good, it has good realtime AV and malware coverage, automatic updates and e-mail check. But it also has a few quirks such as a lack of configurable scheduled scan, which isn’t unusual in free versions, but coupled with it’s apparent default setting of running a “quick” scan every day at 1am of all times and it becomes a pain. I have yet to find any way of disabling this scan other than manually opening the scan window and stopping it. Main problem with this is that the scan loads the system so heavily that the computer becomes extremely unresponsive and it takes bloody ages to get it to stop. Maybe less of a bind on a multi-core system but older kit doesn’t like it much.

So it does the job but not my favourite.

I have used ESET for some years.  It is consistently good, and there is EXCELLENT free telephone assistance in this country should you need it. It is not free but neither is it expensive, and is well worth every penny.
