Just signed in to 2 other sites & problem does not occur, but it does occur on this forum!.

Just tried with F/Fox on sites that show the problem on IE & the problem does not occur

I run AVG 2014 daily & no problems found & have just run a quick scan with Malwarebytes & no problems found.

So I'm lost!!

Have you any ideas?

Does anybody know what the symbol in top left corner is?

Think I may have put in a Microsoft Account when I set up Windows 8.1, can't really remember.

It's just that the bar is very annoying & I can't find any way of permanently removing it.

Also I can't work out what agency/company is the cause of the bar.

Help please!!

PS I don't want to reinstall 8.1 it took for ever last time!

Have you registered for and started this course ?

What happens if you hover over that symbol ?

Does the whole thing go away if you click on the X ?

Have you tried entering a meaningless password to see what that does/shows ?

Yes I have registered for the coarse & started it, but to answer your questions, as the Black bar appears when I log into this windows forum I have used this forum page to conduct the trials you suggest, here are the results

1 Hovering over the red image at the left hand side gives no response. Also no response if I click left or right on this symbol

2 Yes if I click on the x symbol the whole bar disappears

3 I put in a meaningless password & the response in the Black bar was "Incorrect Password"

I'm quite concerned about this as it looks as if others have not had this problem.

I've also "Googled" 8.1 Black bar, but no results found

I had another idea, so I ran C Cleaner, but the Bar still came up in this forum

Alan, Thanks for the idea.

I have gone into C Cleaner & looked at the Program list & none are showing the icon in the Black bar. Also I don't think there are Programs there that look strange.

Then on C Cleaner if I go to Tools/Start up in the IE Section there are only 2 Java Programs which I don't think are causing the problem.

If I look at the Windows section there are a list of programs, I disabled one that looked strange, SKD8821, but the problem still occurred.

Don't think any of the others look strange.

So please to all, any more ideas or has anybody else got this problem?

Further Trials

As Alan suggested using C Cleaner to try to establish the fault.

I have now been into Cleaner/Tools/Start up & for each area Windows/I Explorer/Scheduled Tasks/Context I have disabled all of the items mentioned.

After each action to disable I signed into this forum & on all occasions on sign in the Black Bar came up.

I'm now totally lost!

Irene,

Thanks for looking into this but unfortunately your answer is not correct.

The Black bar on the web site you went into is above the web sites sign in white bar.

Also I get the same problem on this forum, see new screen print attached.

Anyway thanks for your interest, just hope I can solve, I don't like problems.

Try the option, 'Inspect Element'

Could it possibly be to do with 'Trusted Sites' on your internet connection.

Unfortunately, as I said previously, I don't have Windows 8 (or 8.1), so I am unable to explore the problem very well.
