Irene
Is it just me, or is there treacle on the forum again? :( "View New Content" is particularly bad.

Irene
I sometimes receive a dialogue box which refers to 'waiting for shockwave' (or something like that). Could that have any bearing? When I get the treacle effect, a sort of cog appears (turning to signify something happening in the background) - top centre of the window, below the tabs and menu bars. Have you see anything like that, or is that peculiar to my desktop? Specs here...
Boris
Irene - is that a laptop you are using ? - or is it one of those All-in-one PCs ? LIike this ? http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/acer-aspire-z5771-ur31p/ The 64C motherboard temperature looks way too high for me !The 49C CPU temp is also high ! Irene
It is a Packard Bell All-in-One :- What can I do to rectify things?
Boris
Don't buy another one ! :D - very stylish ...... but ! I've come across a few of these that have had short lives - packing a normal processor into a relatively confined AIO space with just a tiny cpu fan/heatsink generates far more heat than even inside a laptop. Relatively little air flow means high temps. If it has any air vents - make sure they aren't blocked by dust/fluff. If the back comes off easily (it probably won't) - blow out the insides with a can of compressed air - making sure that the heatsink vanes under the cpu fan aren't solid with compressed hair/fluff/whatever. For desktops, once the side is off and its in the open, having stopped the fans circulating with a couple of soft wedges, I judiciously use my Flymo Gardenvac set to BLOW on its lower speed :) Amazing what crud comes out ! Irene
Thanks for the tips, Boris.I thought it was effective on space - i.e one piece of hardware for PC and vdu. I'll check with you next time! ;)

Irene
Maybe it's our area. It's still very slow for me.

Irene
This is the dialogue box I often receive. Does it mean that it's not installed correctly?
Belatucadrus
I often get that , I've tried uninstalling and putting in a new copy. Doesn't seem to matter what browser I use. I ended up deciding that the Flash shockwave plugin was flaky and selected "Don't ask me again" and "Stop plugin". So far so good.
Irene
I take it that stopping it hasn't affected any display?
Belatucadrus
Well if it has the missing part isn't glaringly obvious and I haven't missed it.
Irene
Thanks for the info. I might just try your solution next time it shows up. ;)
Irene
I just tried clearing the DNS cache. It does seem to be working much faster - I'll see how it goes for a while and let you know.
