Take a look: HERE for alternatives. The first one looks as if it should fit the bill.
AlanHo
catgate You probably already know that photobucket are blackmailing you to pay a monthly or annual fee to keep using your images which are on their server. The cost is high and astronomical by Yorkshire standards. I had thousands of images stored there - so I downloaded them all to my computer before I lost them. Unfortunately, any photobucket links on old forum posts, no longer show your picture - it is substituted by the one in your post. Hence - if you have images on photobucket you don't have stored anywhere else - download them. I changed to IMGUR 7 weeks ago and it seems to be OK. But for how long can we expect to get free hosting. That is the question.
morty
IMGUR .. never heard of them alan. I'll have a look. Thanks for that. I stashed my images on Picasa but it was owned by google and they just closed it down. and left me high and dry.
Gandalph
I would get onto Google and ask them what you are supposed to do about your images Morty. Its not like Google to close anything without advance notice.
andsome
Why not keep you images under your own control? I keep mine in a 1Tb D Drive with duplicates on two memory sticks.
morty
I think the reasoning was this Gandalph .. They had something called Google images so claimed they offered two types of image storage .. so abandoned Picasa which was the better option for creating galleries and organisation. The remaining Google image is dead basic. I've never tried photobucket but this IMGUR might be a good replacement.
Gandalph
Good idea andsome. I have four drives connected to this machine. I think I will dedicate a quarter of my smallest one to Gifs and the like. Good Idea.

I keep mine in a 1Tb D Drive with duplicates on two memory sticks. Great aren't they, these portable external drives. I'm not very techno and it took me years to use one. First I bought a couple of small sticks .. didn't take me too long to figure out I was cramming my drawers ( wooden furniture, not the other type) .. with 4,8 or 16 G beasties and investing in one decent big beast was best. I've got music, photos and my many Mobi books for my Kindle stashed now. Quick aren't I.
andsome
Best to duplicate them on matching sticks, this is why I triplicate mine with my D drive.

I remember putting a few items on there, a few years ago, as a means of displaying them "in" a post, but that is where my familiarity ends. Perhaps I should go and see if they have been ditched. AlanHo
What you need to do catgate is not include the photobucket link in your posts and the offending notice will not appear. It will still appear on your old posts though unless you edit them to remove the link. Whatever you do - unless you pay the ransom - any posts you make or have made that rely on a photobucket link will no longer display your desired image. I too had a guilt trip and played the OP video - I grudgingly admit the music is not too bad.

catgate
Well thank you all for your views, suggestions and advice. I have managed for a few years without photobucket (and my pictures thereupon), and the number of occasions I have needed such a facility have been nil. I have just copied the picture into the "post".
