What are you having for dinner today?

Monkfish (on special offer) in a 'sort of' Thermidor sauce with purple sprouting broccoli and boiled Anya potatoes.

Purple sprouting brings back memories of childhood when I would go down to the allotment with my dad and pick my own portion - which had to be kept separate, even during cooking. I'm not so finicky now.

I found yesterday's monkfish very disappointing. It's a long time since I had it and remember it being popularised (by Fanny Cradock) as a substitute for lobster - prior to that it was dead cheap.

Lobster? My arm (not quite the word I mean but I think you will understand). It had the texture of lobster but was otherwise totally tasteless. Huge waste of money, even though it was on special offer.

Today is grilled kippers with bread & butter.

Black pudding covered in fried onions, with baby pearl potatoes, carrots and peas. We will not have gravy, instead we will have butter io the veg.

I don't think you are allowed to call it black pudding nowadays - Dianne Abbot might take offence.

Instead please refer to it as pig's pudding.

I remember at the beginning of this nonsense of not being able to use the term 'black' when there was an official decree that 'black ice' on roads in the winter should be called 'dark ice'.

Anyway, today's meal is chicken & mushroom soup - homemade. of course. The chicken is leftover from yesterday.

I don't think you are allowed to use "chicken" any more ? - as this is apparently a term which may offend a person who is easily frightened and avoids dangerous or difficult situations.

I would suggest you call it poltroon and mushroom instead ?

The 25th of October is our diamond wedding anniversary, and we will be away at Warner's Alvaston hall. So we have booked for ten of us to have bed and breakfast and dinner at Fairlawns hotel Aldridge tomorrow night,  and lunch on Sunday. Therefor we will manage with just a couple of boiled eggs each with bread and butter tonight. No sense in being greedy. I will not be visiting the forum tomorrow or Sunday. I will be too busy socialising with my family.:hi:
