Belatucadrus
Sort of Well you didn't expect me to be too conventional.
catgate
Marvellous . There are very few Mongolian who can knock out such a characteristic performance when armed only with instruments.
Belatucadrus
They're Japanese. These are Mongolians. Not sure who the audience were but the blokes could hardly have looked less bored if their lives depended on it, I suspect the booking agent was in for a smack round the ear. AlanHo
I can't believe I'm saying this - but that was slightly better than Mahler being played by Big Ben's Banjo Band
Gandalph
Quite watchable. They really know how to knock it out.

Gandalph
I had to switch that Mongolian stuff off after about three minutes. Not my thing I'm afraid. Now, Tuvian throw singing is something else.

True, and apparently according to those that know this stuff, it's more complex than Mongolian throat singing. It's just a few steps beyond what I "Get" musically and I have yet to blow huge wads of cash importing "Tuvan throatsingers greatest hits". Gandalph
They have "Tuvan throat-singers greatest hits"? I didn't know that they one hit. What next.
catgate
Do all these interesting (and sometimes listen-to-able) musicians actually like what they are producing, or do they do it because "they always do it"?

I doubt however that the "Hits" have travelled very well. Radio 1 seems to have a plethora of DJ's each specialising in some obscure sub-genre of modern music ( to be honest they all sound the same to me ) I have yet to register the "Throat singing hour". Some things I buy because I like them, some because they interest me. At £46.94 a CD would need to rock my world, these guys not so much. Quote do they do it because "they always do it"? Good question, I suspect that it can be applied to all professional musicians, particularly session players. They may like what they're playing but that is subordinate to cashing the cheque. Even some of the "Stars" of modern music get pressured into regurgitating minor variations on what sold the last time rather than doing something new that they like.
