Redhat
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3390315.stmMy personally belief is yeah, OK, it's a good cause to help the bereaved and those that suffer. But imo this is almost emotional blackmail and those oposing a tax will be made to feel within themselves, harsh and bad. Just my opinion, of course I'd try not to speed and definately won't DUI, so I doubt it would specifically apply to me, but I'd make a donation of my own accord if the government ASKED. What do we think?
Guest ellas
I think its a load of crap and this government is abusing the motorist for every penny it can,so a mortorist who commits a minor infringment should pay for someone whos been mugged by a yob, this country really is going downhill, whats going happen when all these woman drivers get fined cause they cant park within so many inches of the kerb, what rubbish will they think of next to deprive the public of there money. Pilch
What a world we live in....If there where no car's/buses/lorries then where would we be, stuck that is where.....Being that Most people that are enough drive, we are the easy target's...Yet when i have asked police for help before, speeder's along my road which is next to a large park, they sit there in full view of the traffic and then say oh they only do 27mph, but as soon as they go, 40mph is more common, with some motorbikes and even car's going faster than that! 60mph a renault megane sometimes goes along my road at, 70mph some bike's, and i am not joking!I am all for speed camera's when they are in the places that need them, not when they are planted as revenue marker's....But why should motorist's pay for the vistim's of crimes un-related? To me they should get tough on criminals that cause damage, attack, kill and all the other crime's, but people that are protecting themselve's/family or property, should not be persucated.Punishments should be set in stone, not after 2 years of a 4 year sentence be set free after a cushy time in prison! It shouldnt be so easy for multiple offender's......But i am against most of the thing's that this government has done. And beign 19 at this point in time i though that the tories where bad! But why should us motorist's who are punished enough with high petrol price's be forced to pay more? Because that is who will be topping up all these taxe's... moon
In a democracy an idea like this wouldn't get past the fifth form debating society. Unfortunately, we've got a representative democracy and our representatives are straight from the fourth form.
Sir T Fireball
I'm all for it. Anything to increase the pain of law breakers gets my approval :) And if this means bigger fines, some of which goes to worthy causes, all the better. Not sure that it should be primarily targeting drivers though
Guest ellas
if you call new labour a worthy cause then yes,and the lousy newcastle labour council who want to put up rates by 12% because they wasted all the rates payers money on rubbish like the city of culture and new year firework display that never went ahead,oh by the way did I mention I hate new labour and there leader blair. andsome
Speeding has absolutely NOTHING to do with crimes of violence, so why should a speeder pay compensation to a muggers victim?
nellie2
If you are speeding.... and you kill someone because you are going too fast and can't stop..... that is a crime of violence isn't it?? Not saying that I agree with this latest TAX.... but speeding is a crime which ever way you look at it.
mark2
but Increasing the financial burden on offenders isn't the answer because many of them get into crime in the first place because they have no moneyand what about the ones that would sooner spend time in chokey rather than pay their fines?but with an expected 60% enforcement rateMotorists are the easy targets and are probably the ones that cough up.The speeding laws also need applying with sense,
moon
Even though we know that cars are destroying the environment worldwide, no government will ever have the nuts to do something about it directly, such as a five year moratorium on new vehicles. Instead, they will nibble away at the motorist with crap like this, toll roads and toll zones, in a weak-willed effort to counteract the forces which, even now, are making it necessary to upgrade the Thames flood barriers and abandon many East coast defences in the face of rising sea levels. A proposal like this is likely to ensure the wholescale sabotage of speed cameras countrywide and the prompt removal from office of the lame-brain that suggested it. moon
Thanks for the tip-off. :D OK then, let's have some suggestions for unidentifiable vandalising of speed cameras ( apart from that old but trusted chestnut, the ski-mask :D )How about lassooing them from the shrubbery and attaching ones rope to a handy horse ? Sir T Fireball
Let's up the alcohol/blood allowances too while we're at it  Crikey, have you seen the stats for survival/death rates and how they are dramatically affected by as little as 5mph increases in speed? More cameras, more speed humps, bigger fines and hopefully soon, micro-chips in every car (and human) on the panet. All monitored by a central super puter! No mercy for those willing to risk my life so they can get to the pub 5 minutes quicker.
moon
Us against you then, I guess. I'll think of you next time I'm stuck behind some plonker on the motorway doing 40mph in his flat hat and wondering what all the horns blaring and lights flashing are about. Redhat
Can't agree with the speed humbs bit..GBH to the suspension..
moon
Yeah. You'll find that the emergency services would like to flatten the buggers out as well.
Redhat
Speed bumps slow down emergency vehicles as well as normal ones. Speed cameras... well.. if so many people get fined, are they really working? If the number keeps increasing? Shock tactics are the only things that really work for me personally.... á la "Think" adverts. Plaster them on TV then have them on special billboards, maybe that will work. I dunno. Sir T Fireball
Moony, I'd rather get hit by a slow car than a fast one. People just don't have any patience these days. Everyone seems to want it NOW, get there NOW. I'd even go so far as to endorse adding compulsory medication to the national water supply :P Type of meds applied to be decided upon regionally of course :D
Tankus
I'd rather get rid of humps that cameras
ranger
There has been at least two SC's set on fire in the Glasgow are in the last 4 months.as for ways to break em, how about getting andsome to run past them very fast, surely andsome's great looks will put paid to any camera as it knows it could never do him credit and just give up taking photos :)
Pilch
Sir T Fireball - dont you mean people want to get where they are going yesterday?Tankus - I want rid of hump's, they i believe caused my mini a great amount of damage (also pot holes aswell)Speed camera's as i said should be put in places that are dangerous....School's, Hospital's, High Street's, Park's and dangerous junction's Etc.Not in the middle of a dual carrigeway where the NSL(National Speed Limit) is allowed.Sounds daft but i think that people should be allowed to go faster, if the car is safe and suitable and driven within reason and not going to cause a danger to anyone. Say like the on motorway's at 3am good visability, why not be allowed to do 110mph, so long as it is safe to do......
andsome
There has been at least two SC's set on fire in the Glasgow are in the last 4 months.as for ways to break em, how about getting andsome to run past them very fast, surely andsome's great looks will put paid to any camera as it knows it could never do him credit and just give up taking photos :)This could well work the opposite way. The camera's could be so chuffed at photographing such perfection, that they may want to work overtime.Seriously though, I have no problem with camera's, but I do object to speeders having to pay extra on fines, for a victim support fund. The law is a total ass in this country, as can be seen by the number of criminals who serve less than half of their sentence, then leave jail and live comfortably on the proceeds of their crime. It is VERY rare indeed for criminals assets to be raided. These are the people who should be paying extra. As the law stands at present, it is up to the legal system to PROVE how much of a criminals wealth came from crime, and only this can be taken away from him/her. A better system would be for criminals ENTIRE wealth to be confiscated when they are found guilty. Maxwell's family still live in comfort, while many ex Daily mirror employees live in near poverty. ranger
I have to agree with andsome, a criminals assetts should be confiscated and then it is up to them to prove what they got legitimitally and legally, in fact it is happening to some of the bigger criminals in Scotland at the moment, for example a businessman with supposed links to gangsters had 2 million pounds worth of assets siezed yesterday and his house, a petrol station, and a pub were raided by the police yesterday to look for documentation to prove the two businesses were used for money laundering, he will now have to prove that the 2 million pound was earned legally or he won't get it back, this is the way it should be.PS 1 and a half million pounds has already been confiscated by the police in Scotland and it is now being used for community projects
andsome
England does seem to fall behind Scotland in some respects
