popeye
Greetings people.First attempt at installing Redhat.91. It did'nt like my wireless optical mouse, so I opted to install with the option ( no mouse) all ok.2. Partitioning. I opted for automatic freespce allocation.Error partitioning.Could not allocate requested partition.Partition failed: Could not allocate partitions as primary partions.I have 44GB of free space.Over to you guys and girls for help please. Pilch
Same problem as i had..Use something like partition magic to re-size the disk(IE dont let it format it, just let it shrink the disk size) with around say 10-15gb free and then it will work... popeye
Thanks Pilch but I'm only a novice and I'm scared to play around with things like that.
nellie2
When we are talking about 'free space', we mean unpartitioned, unallocated unformatted space

Andy-2004
powerless how did u tell that he has 4 primary partition's!?!?Proably cause you are only allowed four primary partitions and since it wont let him have another then the only explaniation must be that he has all four used up already :)
popeye
Powerless, can you please expand on partitions and how to get Linux to recognise one so that I can re-try to instal.
trackrat
Have just installed Mandrake 10.It would not boot of CD1 so I put CD2 in, then I got the Install screen and on pressing enter it said this dsik was not bootable so I put disk 1 back in and away it went. No problems till CD 3 with 10 seconds to go to finish the install it ejected the CD and asked me for CD 4.SO I went back to the download site on my other computer to make sure I had not missed any download but their were only 3 to download, so I clicked cancel and it finished the installation and it works perfectly.Powerless, why would it be asking for CD4?. Chris
Download Linux only requires you to have 3 CD's.If you buy Linx you'll get about 7 CD's or even a DVD. Its just extra stuff thats all. Its not really needed.
