Smoking will kill you.....

Yes but it is hardly unique in that

Smoking will kill you FASTER

Faster than what! A road accident, A heart attack!

Faster than a life of happiness i mean why smoke when you could spend the money on a nice holiday or at least give it to a needy cause or something. I mean if you dont want 2000 squid every year im sure alot of people would take it off your hands myself being one of them

I say if you want to smoke then smoke, but be considerate and don't smoke beside non-smokers as they have the right to as near clean air as they can get just as the smoker has the right to smoke if he/she wants to.

The only evidence is that smoking is likely to reduce the lifespan you may have had if you hadn't been a smoker. It is also a cause of many illnesses that may be terminal.

Even the activity of smoking could be considered dangerous...how many people smoke whilst driving? Can't see what all the fuss about using the phone was when people are happy to wave flames and hot objects around the face/body!

Gandalph makes sense.

Funny I've just been talking about this in the 'Secret Mod Place'!

I'm 25 and have smoked since I was 14...That's eleven years already!!

Well, on Monday just gone I'd had enough, and quit! 4 days later I've not had one cig, the cravings are managable but can you belive I've now got Tonsillitis!! Who says non-smokers are healthier??? :D

I'm off to suck on a Strepsil! :D

Smoking does nothing positive towards the health and well being of anyone.

Any "buzz" obtained from one's first few uses of this stuff are quickly lost and remaining after that is an addiction - in the true meaning of that word.

Yes, I did smoke at one time - I stopped in 1983 and never regretted it. It wasn't easy but I managed to do it and I've not had a single cigarette since.

I see smokers now and think how foolish they are but, I would never presume to lecture them on their addiction. As long as I have enough fresh air to breathe then it doesn't bother me.

What I do object to is of people rabbiting on, whinging, whining and moaning on about smoking and smokers when they have zero hope of having any influence on the smokers themselves. As I said above, smoking is an addiction and only a determination on the part of the addict to stop the habit will have any effect on him (or her) doing that.

smoking gives pleasure to people that smoke in just the same way as alcahol

gives pleasure to those that drink.

both have there problems and both collect enough tax to pay for the illness

they cause.i just hope all the people that would like it banned will be willing

to pay my share of the tax burden that will follow should they get their way.

Well both my parents smoke although i have seen what it has done to them and so i wont smoke simple...

People that smoke i think no the risk's, especially the health risk's, but what amazes' me is that some just dont realise the financial burden of smoking a packet of 20 a day........

But if people want to ruin their health and life then let them, they pay for what they smoke but perhap's more could be done to show the effects of it...

You got that right!

I smoked for 11 years and worked it out that i'd smoked over 80,000 fags at a cost of £20,000 approx!!

Now that's a shocking amount!

Hi All

I have been smoking for the last 17 odd years, but 2 years ago i gave it up for a year, all was fine until i started putting on the weight, almost 4 stone in that year, now i know people that have quit and not gained an single gram (but unfortunately my body does not work that way :( ).

I must say that, that year was the most un-healthy i have ever been, i had a cold or the flu constantly, and my blood pressure shot through the roof (due to the weight gain)

So to be honest i decided to start smoking again, (not that i wanted a ciggi or anything, but i knew i would would be healthier (OK not in the long run maybe), I started again last April and have since lost the 4 stone i put on and my blood pressure in spot on as it should be, plus i have not had a cold or the flu in 9 months.

This is not to say smoking is good for you, i totally regret the day i ever started to smoke. :(

It will be interesting to hear from andsome as I remember from one of his posts that he used to smoke but gave it up about fifteen years ago. A friend of mine who is a Doctor has mentioned that a person who has smoked for a long time could have more health problems than enough is he/she was to give up. I know this was the case with my Father who gave up when he was 54 years old, he just said enough was enough and never touched another one. He died aged 73 from Cancer. Cancer of the bowel. After he had given the fag's up he caught more colds and flues than he had ever had. My friend the Doc says this is probably because as the Nicotine Tar wore thin in the lungs by slowly being absorbed into the blood stream, it allows more Germs to enter the body. However I must say that these day's Colds and Flu's do not normally kill, unlike Nicotine.
