Why are so many members of the forum so shy. What's wrong with showing your birthday, where you live, what your interests are? So many members profiles just say 'No information', several times over. Come on lets get to know everyone.

Nellie, I'm very interested in your bits of course. The point I'm trying to make is why won't people fill in their profile? What is the big secret about where abouts you live, what is your birth date, what are your interests, it is after all supposed to be a friendly forum? We all hide behind a nickname in any case.

I agree with andsome on this one - it surprises me that so few of us are willing to give a personal outline. It would be nice to know where people live, their interests and what age bracket they fall into - it would enhance our community spirit.

I would go so far as to suggest that it should be a requirement for mods and admin to provide more information about themselves to add credence to their role.

No!

No, no no!!!

Personal details have no relevance here.

The fact that it was my birthday yesterday and I am 59 is only of importance to me and my immediate family. Other personal information about me can be, and is, revealed as and when required.

Any thought of an obligation to have this as a requirement of membership sees my immediate resignation.

And no, I don't have anything to hide.

Personal details are just that, they are personal and no one is under any obligation to provide any details about themselves or even their computer.

WE DON'T ASK FOR IT AND WILL NEVER ASK FOR IT.

If a member enters such details then they do so because they want to share their details with us - and that's it.

Agreed. However this is after all a friendly forum, why not divulge a few bits of info on interests, birthday, place of residence etc. What's the big secret?

What's the big secret?

No secret, just irrelevant.

I've revealed my birthday earlier in this thread.

It's of no importance that I live in one of the most expensive areas of the country - the juncture of Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire. That the clientele of my local pub looks like the cast of the next blockbusting TV series or film. That there are more politicians in my local Tesco on a Friday morning than there are in "The House". That within spitting distance of my house there are the residences of the chairpersons some of the largest blue chip companies. That my elder son is a consultant gynaecologist. That my younger son is sole owner of a multimillion pound graphic arts company - he's rich!!! That my younger son is gay and his partner is a pilot for a large airline - - - and so on and so forth.

See, none of that is important here and now but, at various times, on this or on another forum (no, not PCA), these things have been "revealed"

Actually, I must agree with Powerless!

Any Member that is really interested in another Member, in most cases, only has to ask, by PM! If the receiptrent Member is comfortable to give Personal Information, that is fine!!

We must ALWAYS REMEMBER that in ALL Forums, there MAY be STALKERS!!

Each Member are given, quite rightly, the choice to disclose Information!

DD is spot on on this one, it is quite amazing the amount of information we leave behind on the net, dedicated stalkers can get all sorts of info from all sorts of places and build up a pretty accurate profile of whoever they may be stalking from "a bit here, a bit there". Once bitten, twice shy is my response.
