moon
Downing Street has admitted to The Observer that repeated claims by Tony Blair that '400,000 bodies had been found in Iraqi mass graves' is untrue, and only about 5,000 corpses have so far been uncovered.http://observer.guardian.co.uk/politics/st...1263830,00.htmlMy apologies to all debaters for threads in which I have quoted '400,000 bodies' to make a point. I have been deceived.
Besty
Oh 5,000 is that all  what evil bastard could order the execution of over 5,000 people
mark2
Hopefully this "mis-estimating " will be a further nail in B'liars political coffin, or will he claim to have been mislead once more!!
nellie2
Surely the numbers don't matter...... is it any less an atrocity because it wasn't 400,000? I think not.
moon
No nell, it's no less of an atrocity, even if '5, 000' can be believed, but as Bruce points out at the Pit the war has taken the lives of two or three times that number already. My own reasons for wanting an end to Saddam were based on the scale of his atrocities. With hindsight there were other, better, ways. With no wmd and a hugely reduced scale of deaths the real motives for entering Iraq are become sickeningly clear. I feel that the entire action has been for the benefit of Jewish businessmen and Christian Zionists.
nellie2
I'm not one for political debate and I don't condone the way we went gung ho into this..... but will we ever know the real figures? That man was a tryrant... lining his own pockets from the misery of his people and they are well rid of him.

Somehow, I really do not think this is going to happen.
catgate
That man was a tyrant... lining his own pockets from the misery of his people and they are well rid of him.Are you refering to Saddam or Blair or Bush??
nellie2
I was referring to Saddam..... we have the option of voting Blair and Bush out of power.

You could remove the major portion of the US Congress and few honest men would notice. The entire Tory party could be disappeared . Vive l'internet. Now be fair, if the whole of the Tory party need to disappear, how about the whole of new labour? The last Tory government was full of sleaze, but Labour have been a damned sight worse. Besty
Saddam should be killed but we should let the families of the ones he murdered for no reason decide how it is done. As for blair he is just a liar and an extremely bad one at that who should never have had the oppertunity to have power. Bush is a simpleton I personally think that the president is being advised by the 'people in the background' to do things that he doesnt understand and is too stupid to realise. Tankus
That means that B'liar has doubled or even tripled Saddams civilian Iraqi bodycount...more children too ...I'll bet ...... We need a regime change .....

moon
I'm not surprised. I don't know about anybody else but I'm sitting here reeling from the realisation that all my argument in all the discussions since March 2003 have been based upon a pile of poo. As we've all paid for this war , and its justifications have been proved to be false, I'm wondering if we're entitled to a tax rebate ? Tankus
What are the odds on Iran if Bush gets re-elected ......? At least B'liar wouldn't be able to swing Parliament in 45 min next time ....
Sir T Fireball
I wasn't in possession of the facts to make WILD claims in support of the invasion of a sovereign nation  The only people I heard from pre-attack with seemingly no axe to grind were the inspectors and they opposed it. Those for the attack were willing to trust B'liar & Bush, or at least purport to, and came over as having zero empathy for the 10's of thousands of civillians lives that were sure to be lost. To place the fate of so many souls in the hands of those 2 showed either a severe lack of good judgment or an an irrational contempt for the nasty Muslims. I prefer to think of you as belonging to the 1st group :P I hope the other hawks follow your lead and donate heavily to one of the many Iraqi relief funds if or when you receive your tax refunds :)
moon
Based on the facts as they were presented we were doing the Iraqis a favour. The majority of them were glad to goddam Saddam and still are. I'm just apologizing for using false information, not for freeing Iraqis. The UK should actively oppose any moves on Iran. That's a society that's getting shot of its own despots. Iraq was helpless.
