Ten days on now.............how are you two coping?

terribly,

the apprentice is terrified of me :D

i've bitten my fingernails to my elbows :D

my jaw aches from chewing gum :D

but just about getting through it, feeling easier about it day by day and will finish with the 'orrible 'abit, can't say have yet 'cos I still find myself reaching for a non existent pack in unguarded moments

It's early days - It WILL get easier. Get a big jigsaw - or get a large painting by numbers. Everytime you get 'restless' go and do a bit. I had a p by n sitting on the table for weeks - it was horrible - but a lot of smokes went into it!

You can do it!! :)

From my response to besty's other post

and the effects more insidious (?) (I'm still trying to keep off them since alan's post)

one day at a time, but still find myself putting my hand in my pocket looking for them, particularly when driving somewhere :(

don't think I'll ever be free enough to say "I'm a non smoker"

I think more "I'm not smoking" (does that make sense? )

Sorry, I forgot to update everyone.

My docters advised me not to give up at this moment in time, as I have a serious illness that will be affected by the stopping of smoking.

I tried for 3 days before seeing my docter, but the symptoms were too much for me.

I'm sorry  :(

Ah well, have another go when you feel stronger.

Not 'too' serious we hope?

Hi all

I have just found this thread, don't really know how i missed it.

To all you guys that have managed to give up, did you put much weight on?

I gave up for 11 months back in 2003, i used the patches, which in my case i think they made it easier fore me, while i was on the patches i gained zero weight, but after 3 months i stopped with them and promptly gaind 3 stone :o now i am quite a big guy anyway and deffinatly gaining 3 stone put me way over weight, my blood pressure shot through the roof aswell, i know it sounds silly but i could just not stop eating :(

So i made a choice to start smoking again and with in 6 months i lost the 3 stone and my blood pressure went back to perfect. now i will try and quit again as i did find it quite easy to do with out the ciggis, apart from the extra eating.

But i will quit when i have lost a bit more weght to account for the extra i know i will put on.

Thats my plan anyway.

Well done & good luck to anybody that has managed to quit.

All the best

Tony

I am now about 3 stone heavier than when I packed up smoking about 15 years ago. There is NO way that I would start smoking again. If I am in a room with a smoker now, I find the smell extremely irritating, and my clothes stink the next day. If any visitors want to smoke they have to do it outside, and it is banned in my car. My blood pressure is 140/80 which is OK for a 68 year old, 69 in April. Pack it in again. You can always do more exercise.

I'm not that worried about weight.. I'm less than ideal for my height and age... And to think about it, I had the same weight since the nine'th grade (for 11 years now) and the only thing that changed was my height...

i am now 1.92 cm and i hope it stays like that :D...

I hate smoking, but i do it with very succesfully... When I started it was for a good reason (well not quite), but I finished highschool...A long story here.. Another time maybe.

I smoked my way through the university and after...

So I ask myself why do I smoke today... Fisrt thing that comes to mind is I Have An Occupation.. It's the habbit to move your hand and put something in your mouth... Try eating candies when you want to light a ciggar and see if the need goes away ...

I tried to quit many times, but the record was two months.. My dentist told that i should quit smoking, and I did.. Then the school began... Image a huge building with very huge free space and no ventilation. The only ventilation were the doors and only one was open...Here's the site and hopefully some pictures http://www.ace.tuiasi.ro/en/index.html I always had a very sensitive sense of smell...Smoking destroyed it... When I studied there smoking was allowed in the hallways and, belive, at least 70% of the students smoked... With no ventilation those hallways smelled like hell.. I couldn't resist there.. So back to my habit...

And now I think it is time to let it go...

The consequences should be at least positive, except the fact that i am getting quite pissed and very easily... And I am one of the coolest man on earth :) ...

So those being said, I QUIT !!!!

I'll keep you posted on this...
